Charney Companies is an American fully-integrated real estate development, brokerage and management firm with headquarters in Long Island City, New York. Founded in 2013 by Sam Charney, [1] the company has developed and operates over two million square feet of mixed-use, mixed income residential, and retail properties throughout the New York metropolitan area. After working as a project executive at Two Trees Management for eight years, Sam Charney founded the firm in 2013. [3]
In 2015, Charney Co. developed its first project, The Jackson Condominium, on 47th Avenue in Long Island City. [4] [5] The 11-story development is located around the corner of MoMA PS1 and features a lobby mosaic designed by Tom Fruin. [6] [7]
In March 2016, Charney Companies purchased the site of the Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburg, Brooklyn for $80 million. [8] The firm later announced that it planned to fully restore the 112-year-old neoclassical landmark bank and also construct a 23-story tall residential, office and retail tower behind the bank. [9] The project was completed, and leasing began in 2020. [10] Charney collaborated with Tom Fruin and Swoon to commission lobby art work and exterior murals for the Dime Savings Bank project. [11] The Dime is also home to the largest publicly accessible EV charging hub in New York, run by Revel. [12]
The firm purchased 585 Union Street in January 2020. [13] Charney Co. then purchased 251 Douglass St. in April 2020 for $22.5 million, with the firm later receiving financing from Barings LLC to expand the site. [14] Construction broke ground for the 15-story Douglass St. building in November 2023. [15]
The Green House, a 12-story residential building located in Long Island City, Queens, completed construction in January 2023. Designed by Studio V Architecture and financed by Santander Bank, Green House features three art murals by FAILE as well as an interactive light installation by Jen Lewin. [16] [17]
In May 2023, Charney Co. broke ground on 310 and 340 Nevins Street, a two-building residential project in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Plans for the 600,000 square-foot complex include: 654 rental units, ground-floor retail space, and a public waterfront esplanade designed by James Corner field opps. [18]
585 Union Street, a nine-story mixed-use building designed by Fogarty Finger Architects, topped out in November 2023. Managed by Charney Co., the development is part of the larger Gowanus Wharf campus, which also includes the Douglass and Nevins properties. [19]
In March 2024, the firm acquired 99 Claremont in Morningside Heights, with plans to convert the property into off-campus student housing for Columbia University. [20]
Interstate 278 (I-278) is an auxiliary Interstate Highway in New Jersey and New York in the United States. The road runs 35.62 miles (57.32 km) from US Route 1/9 (US 1/9) in Linden, New Jersey, northeast to the Bruckner Interchange in the New York City borough of the Bronx. The majority of I-278 is in New York City, where it serves as a partial beltway and passes through all five of the city's boroughs. I-278 follows several freeways, including the Union Freeway in Union County, New Jersey; the Staten Island Expressway (SIE) across Staten Island; the Gowanus Expressway in southern Brooklyn; the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway (BQE) across Northern Brooklyn and Queens; a small part of the Grand Central Parkway in Queens; and a part of the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx. I-278 also crosses multiple bridges, including the Goethals, Verrazzano-Narrows, Kosciuszko, and Robert F. Kennedy bridges.
The Dime Community Bank, originally known as the Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburgh, is a local, FDIC-insured bank headquartered in Hauppauge, New York. Founded in 1864, the bank was originally based in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, and continues to operate with a strong market presence in this area. In 2017, Dime moved its headquarters to Brooklyn Heights. On Monday, February 1, 2021, Bridge Bancorp Inc. and Dime Community Bancshares successfully closed on a merger of equals. The bank headquarters is currently in Hauppauge, NY.

The principals were Louis Montayne Mowbray (1867-1921) and Justin Maximo Uffinger Sr. (1871-1948).

The Brooklyn Tower is a supertall mixed-use, primarily residential skyscraper in the Downtown Brooklyn neighborhood of New York City. Developed by JDS Development Group, it is situated on the north side of DeKalb Avenue near Flatbush Avenue. The main portion of the skyscraper is a 74-story, 1,066-foot (325 m) residential structure designed by SHoP Architects and built from 2018 to 2022. Preserved at the skyscraper's base is the Dime Savings Bank Building, designed by Mowbray and Uffinger, which dates to the 1900s.
70 Vestry is a thirteen-story residential building in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan, in New York City. The building was designed by the New Classical firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
The Alloy Block is an under-construction mixed-use development in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, New York City, near Downtown Brooklyn. The first building at 505 State Street is 482 feet (147 m) high and contains 441 residential units and a retail base. A second building at 80 Flatbush Avenue will contain two schools, and the complex will include three additional buildings, including preexisting structures. The structures are being developed by Alloy Development.
The Central Power Station of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company building, commonly known as the Batcave or Gowanus Batcave, is a former transit power station at 153 Second Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn, New York City by the Gowanus Canal. It was built between 1901 and 1904, while the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company was expanding its rapid transit and streetcar service. It stopped operating in 1972 and sat abandoned for more than two decades, becoming home to a community of squatters in the early 2000s. The owners, who were planning to redevelop the site, building condominiums called "Gowanus Village", had the squatters removed and increased security in 2006. The Gowanus Village plans did not materialize and after a short time it became a popular space for graffiti and underground events.

Skyline Tower, previously known as Court Square City View Tower, is a residential skyscraper in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens in New York City. The building topped out in October 2019, surpassing One Court Square to become the tallest building in Queens at 762 feet (232 m). For two years, it was also the tallest building on Long Island; in October 2021, the building was surpassed in height when the Brooklyn Tower topped out. It was completed in July 2021.
Front & York is a full-block residential building at 85 Jay Street in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City. CIM Group and LIVWRK developed the building, and Morris Adjmi Architects designed it.

The Williamsburgh Savings Bank Building, also known as the Weylin and 175 Broadway, is a former bank building at 175 Broadway in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City. Constructed as the headquarters of the Williamsburgh Savings Bank in 1875 and subsequently expanded several times, it occupies the northwest corner of Broadway and Driggs Avenue, just south of the Williamsburg Bridge. The Williamsburgh Savings Bank Building was designed in the Classical Revival style by George B. Post, with interiors by Peter B. Wight.
520 Fifth Avenue is a mixed-use supertall building under construction in New York City. The building occupies the former site of three structures. Rabina is developing the building, and architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox designed the structure and serves as architect of record. The interior design is by Charles & Co.

Park Slope Village is a housing development in the northwestern section of Park Slope, Brooklyn, bordering Gowanus to the west. It was developed by the Fifth Avenue Committee, and built by the Urban Housing Association as part of a 1982 urban renewal project. Construction of the 55 three-unit townhouses was completed in 1986.
