The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) is a professional organization in Nigeria whose members are certified as qualified tax practitioners or administrators. [1]
The CITN was formed in February 1982 and chartered by the Federal Government of Nigeria by the enabling Act No. 76 of 1992. [1] Members of the institute may be Accounting, Legal or other professionals who have obtained the relevant tax expertise. The institute provides training and conducts examinations to determine eligibility. [2] The CITN offers an Advanced Diploma in International Taxation to CITN members who work in international tax. [3] The CITN has been criticized for not providing enough training to members at subsidized rates. [4]
The CITN cooperates with the United Kingdom-based Chartered Institute of Taxation. [3] CITN is also affiliated with the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners and the West African Union of Tax Institutes. [5] [6] The CITN has a working relationship with the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to promote XBRL recommendations and specifications in Nigeria. [7] The CITN is a member of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria. [8] The CITN is also a member of the International Tax Directors Forum (ITDF) and the Association of African Tax Institutes (AATI).

In March 2011, Prince Rasaq Adekunle Quadri, former President of the CITN, was elected the first President of the West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI). WAUTI is the umbrella body of tax Institutes in the region. [10] In May 2011, Sebastian Owuama, President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, attended the annual tax conference of the CITN in Abuja where he called for an end to the squabble between ICAN and the CITN. [11] In June 2011, Sunday Jegede, president of the CITN, was elected first President of the Association of African Tax Institutes (AATI). The AATI was formally inaugurated in South Africa in October 2011 during the Annual Tax Conference of the South Africa Institute of Taxation. [12]
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) was established under a special act, The Nepal Chartered Accountants Act, 1997 to enhance social recognition and faith of people at large in the accounting profession by raising public awareness towards the importance of accounting profession as well as towards economic and social responsibility of the accountants, and to contribute towards economic development of the country. The Institute is an autonomous body and the Council is fully authorized by the Act to undertake accountancy profession in Nepal.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is a professional accountancy body in Nigeria. It is one of the two professional accountancy associations with regulatory authority in Nigeria, the other being the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN). The relationship between the two organizations has been tense. In 2007 ICAN attempted to have the bill establishing ANAN declared void.

The Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) is the regional body that is aimed to represent African professional accountants with one and louder voice, particularly in relating with International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). It was inaugurated in Dakar, Senegal on 5 May 2011.
The Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa (ABWA) is a regional organization of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). As of 2011 there were ten West African accounting institutes represented in ABWA.
The Nigerian Accounting Association (NAA) is a member driven association of academics in the accountancy profession. It is the successor to the defunct Nigerian Association of Accounting Teachers (NATA). NATA was established in 1972 with the objective of "contributing through research and education, to the improvement of accounting profession and accounting education in Nigeria". The NAA is an academic society aimed at advancement of the accounting discipline and accounting profession in Nigeria. Members are usually members of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and/or the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI) is an association formed by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Ghana (CITG) with the objective of developing and promoting the taxation profession in West Africa. A nationally recognized taxation institute or organization in a West African country is eligible for full membership.
