Rani Sarubala Rajammani Ayi Sahib (born 7 October 1958), popularly known as Mayor Sarubala Tondaiman, is an Indian politician and member of the royal house of Pudukkottai. She is the Organising Secretary of AMMK. She was elected mayor of Tiruchirappalli City Corporation two times (2001 and 2005) and was the president of Trichy Unit Tamil Maanila Congress for a brief time. She quit the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on 15 September 2016. Later, she sided with RK Nagar MLA Dhinakaran to become a higher office holder in the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.

Sarubala was a keen rifle shooter in her early days. She is the current treasurer of Royal Pudukottai Sports Club.

Early and personal life

Tondaiman was born on 7 October 1958 to Subramaniam, a superintendent engineer of the Tamil Nadu Highways Department and his wife Sarojini, granddaughter of late Sri Bhaskara Tondaiman IFS from Tirunelveli[ citation needed ] sister of S Ramasundaram IAS, [1] former public works secretary and sister-in-law of Archana Ramasundram IPS. Tondaiman has a masters in arts and philosophy.[ citation needed ]

She is married to Rajah R. Rajagopala Tondaiman, who is the titular Rajah of Pudukottai, the president of Royal Pudukottai Sports Club and a vice president of the Tamil Nadu Shooting Association. The couple have a son, R. Prithviraj Tondaiman, who is an international trap shooter and the secretary of Royal Pudukottai Sports Club, and a daughter, Radha Niranjani, who is also a national trap shooter and the joint treasurer of Royal Pudukottai Sports Club.

Politics

From her early days, Sarubala has been an active member of the Indian National Congress.[ citation needed ] She served as the mayor of Tiruchirappalli from 2001 [2] to 2009. [3] During the 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections, she stood from the Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency and lost to P. Kumar consecutively of the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) by 4,335 votes and 1,00,300 votes respectively. [4]

Sarubala is currently the joint convenor of the Movement for the Restoration of Vedic Wisdom.[ citation needed ] She is also the secretary of ACME Matriculation School, Tiruchirappalli, and the Pudukkottai Mannar Educational and Charitable Trust and Mannar Arts & Science College, Tiruchirappalli.[ citation needed ]

She quit the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on 15 September 2016. [5]

She contested unsuccessfully in the 2019 parliamentary elections in Tiruchirappalli constituency as an independent candidate. [6]

The thirteenth legislative assembly election, of Tamil Nadu was held on 8 May 2006. It was held for all 234 constituencies to elect the government in the state for the following five years. The votes were counted three days later on 11 May 2006 and all the results were out by the end of the day. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led (DMK) front won the elections, with the DMK emerging as the single-largest party with 96 seats, and its leader, M Karunanidhi was sworn in as Chief Minister for a fifth and final term. This election marked the first time the state saw a hung assembly with no party gaining a majority of its own. As a result, DMK formed a minority government with its allies, which is the first in the state since the 1952 election. 13th Assembly was instituted due to this election.

Subburaman Thirunavukkarasar is an Indian politician. He was the State President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee till 2 February 2019 and former secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of the Indian National Congress (INC) party. His introduction to politics in 1977 was facilitated by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran. Ramachandran founded the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in 1972 and was facing his first elections for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election in 1977. He identified Thirunavukkarasar, a lawyer by profession, to contest the Aranthangi assembly constituency. Thirunavukkarasar won the seat, aged 27, and was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He continued in that capacity till 1980. Subsequently, he served as Tamil Nadu state minister from 1980 to 1987 in the MGR cabinet, holding portfolios that included Industries, Housing Board, Excise and Handlooms. Later, he became a member of the Lok Sabha – the lower house of the Parliament of India – when he won the erstwhile Pudukottai Lok Sabha constituency. He served as Union Minister of state for shipping and later for telecommunications and information technology.

The eleventh legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 2 May 1996. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led front won the election and its leader M. Karunanidhi, became the chief minister. This was his fourth term in office. S. Balakrishnan, also known as So. Balakrishnan, of Tamil Maanila Congress, became the Leader of the Opposition. The incumbent All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government was defeated in a landslide with its general secretary and outgoing chief minister J. Jayalalithaa losing the election from the Bargur constituency. She became the first Incumbent Chief Minister since M. Bakthavatsalam in 1967 to lose her own constituency.

The 1996 Indian general election polls in Tamil Nadu were held for 39 seats in the state. The result was a landslide for the newly formed alliance between Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and its leader G. K. Moopanar, and the left parties who ended up getting all 39 seats. Post election, the newly formed United Front, ended up getting all the seats from Tamil Nadu, since DMK and TMC joined it, with outside support from Indian National Congress (INC). The results in Tamil Nadu is a reflection of the results nationally, where INC, ended up losing the most seats. This election was seen as redemption for Moopanar and TMC, since they left Congress, on grounds that they formed an alliance with AIADMK, even though J. Jayalalithaa, general secretary of AIADMK, was accused of many corruption charges. This led to a disastrous showing, for AIADMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu, since they lost all 39 seats from the last election, and TMC reaping the benefits by getting the most seats, in this election with 20 seats.


Dr. A. Chellakumar is an Indian politician and Member of parliament. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as an Indian National Congress (INC) candidate from Anna Nagar constituency in the 1991 election and as a Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) (TMC) candidate from T. Nagar constituency in the 1996 election. He was unsuccessful in winning the Villivakkam constituency in 2001. and in the 2011 election he attempted once again to gain the T. Nagar seat. His candidacy in 2001 was as a TMC member and in 2011 it was for the INC. He was runner-up on both occasions.

C. Gnanasekaran is an Indian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly from Vellore constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate in 1991 and 2006 elections and as a Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) candidate in 1996, and 2001 elections.

S. Gunasekaran is an Indian politician and a former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu from Sivaganga constituency.

The AIADMK-led Alliance is an Indian regional political party alliance in the state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry led by the Dravidian party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founded by the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R.).
