Chasity Wells-Armstrong (born 1971/1972) is an American politician,the first African-American to serve as mayor of Kankakee,Illinois,the county seat of Kankakee County. [2]
Wells-Armstrong was raised on the east side of Kankakee [3] and earned an associate degree from Kankakee Community College and a B.A. and M.A. from Governors State University. [4] After school,she worked as deputy district director for Illinois Democratic Congressman Bill Foster,she served as board vice president for the Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter,and as education chairwoman of the Kankakee County Branch of the NAACP. [4] In May 2015,she was elected to the Kankakee City Council representing the city's 5th ward. [1] In the April 4,2017 mayoral election,she defeated two-term mayor Republican Nina Epstein (the city's first female mayor) by a vote of 1,918 to 1,703 with 2nd Ward alderman Jim Stokes running as an Independent a distant third with 455 votes. [1] Kankakee was roughly 40% white,40% Black,and 20% Hispanic at the time. [5] She was sworn in on May 1,2017. [1] She is the city's first Democratic mayor since Russell Johnson who served from 1985 to 1993. [1] While mayor,she secured over $14 million in COVID funding for the city and laid the groundwork for the revitalization of the Kankakee River. [6] On April 6,2021,she was defeated by 6th Ward Republican Alderman Christopher Curtis. [3] Curtis was sworn in on May 3,2021. [7]
On June 8,2021,she was appointed by the Maywood Board of Trustees in a 5–2 vote as the next village manager of Maywood,Illinois;she was sworn in after the vote. [4] She replaced Willie Norfleet Jr. [4] On June 3,2022,the Maywood Board of Trustees voted 5–2 to suspend Chasity Wells-Armstrong as Village Manager.

Dorothy Jean Tillman is an American politician,civil rights activist and former Chicago,Illinois alderman. Tillman served as the alderman of the city's 3rd Ward from 1985 until 2007. A member of the Democratic Party,representing part of the city's South Side in the Chicago City Council. As an Alderman,Tillman was a strong advocate of reparations for slavery. In April 2007,Tillman was defeated in a runoff election by challenger Pat Dowell. Tillman defeated Dowell in 2003. Prior to her career as an alderman,Tillman was active in the Civil Rights Movement,working for Martin Luther King Jr.'s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) as an activist. Tillman was known for wearing large hats and has cultivated this image as her trademark.

Derrick G. Curtis is an American politician who has served as the alderman of Chicago's 18th ward since 2015. He became the Democratic committeeman of the ward in 2011 after Lona Lane stepped down from that position. Curtis had previously been the ward's Streets and Sanitation superintendent,with more than 25 years of experience as a precinct captain. He ran against Lane in the 2015 aldermanic race and defeated her in a runoff. He was sworn into office on May 18,2015.

The 47-year-old Wells-Armstrong collected 47 percent of the vote and defeated Epstein by a 1,918-1,703 margin.
