Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf was a Pakistani politician and businessman who was the founder of Ashraf Sugar Mills and Ashraf Coal Mines. [1]

Early life

Chaudhry Ashraf was born in 1925, to a well-known family in Challianwala, Mandi Bahauddin District and was the son of Khan Muhammad Ashraf Sr. (1889-1985). He served in World War II at the age of 15, and fought in The Blitz. Chaudhrey graduated from Bahauddin University with a bachelor's degree in 1946. His uncle Chaudhry Rehmat Ali was a close associate of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. [2] He founded Ashraf Sugar Mills in the 1950s.

He was the father of former Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Zaka Ashraf. [1] After his son Zaka graduated from Cadet College Petro with his bachelor's degree in 1973, he planned to serve in the Army and eventually became a Navy Officer and later travel aboard in several countries including Jamaica and Panama, but by his father's request he was to work at his business, so that when he died The Ashraf name would carry on with his son.

Political career

He became member of Senate of Pakistan as the candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the government of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. [2]

Death

He died in November 1983. [3] After his death, his son Zaka became the Chairman of Ashraf Sugar Mills and inherited his late father's fortune.

Chowdhury is a title of honour, usually hereditary, originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is an adaption from Sanskrit. During the Mughal rule, it was a title awarded to eminent people, while during British rule, the term was associated with zamindars and social leaders. The common female equivalent was Chowdhurani. Many landlords under the Permanent Settlement carried this surname. Land reforms after the partition of India abolished the permanent settlement. In modern times, the term is a common South Asian surname for both males and females.

Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain is a Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from 2002 to 2013. In 2023, he was appointed as the president of PML-Q after his brother Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was removed from the position by a breakway faction. Later, Election commission of Pakistan reverted the decision and stated it an illegal move. Also given all powers back to Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He was member of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf until he announced going back to Shujaat's PML-Q. He is the father of the current member national assembly Chaudhry Hussain Elahi and uncle of Moonis Elahi and Chaudhry Salik Hussain.

Muhammad Hassan was a Pakistani Islamic scholar and founder of Jamia Ashrafia. He was educated at Darul Uloom Deoband. He was a student of Ashraf Ali Thanwi and Anwar Shah Kashmiri.

It is written by Saima Akram Chaudhry and features Imran Ashraf and Ayeza Khan in leading roles with a supporting cast of Sohail Ahmed, Irsa Ghazal, Madiha Rizvi, Asma Abbas, Yasir Nawaz, Beenish Chohan, Noor ul Hassan and Shagufta Ijaz.
