Check it Out! is a Canadian television sitcom that aired on CTV from September 1985 to April 1988. The series also aired in the United States in syndication and on the USA Network. [1]

Synopsis

Based on the British series Tripper's Day , Check It Out! was set in a fictional supermarket called Cobb's, located in Brampton, Ontario and stars Don Adams as manager Howard Bannister. The cast also included Dinah Christie, Henry Beckman, Gordon Clapp, Barbara Hamilton, Elizabeth Hanna, Kathleen Laskey, Jeff Pustil, Simon Reynolds, Aaron Schwartz and Tonya Williams. [1] The series was taped in front of a studio audience at CFTO-TV in Toronto.

Syndication

In 2008, four episodes of the series were featured on WGN America's "Outta Sight Retro Night" program­ming block. As of 2013, the program is seen on Comedy Gold in Canada daily. In 2023, the show is available to watch on Tubi and Pluto TV for free. The series is also available on Peacock.

International titles

In Latin America the show was called Supermercado 99 ("Supermarket 99"), a reference to Barbara Feldon's character in Get Smart , [2] while in Italy, the show was called Il supermercato più pazzo del mondo ("The craziest supermarket in the world").

In Sweden, comical duo Stefan & Krister star in Full Frys , a TV series largely based on Check it Out! and Tripper's Day.

Get Smart is an American comedy television series parodying the secret agent genre that had become widely popular in the first half of the 1960s with the release of the James Bond films. <i>Slingers Day</i> British TV sitcom (1986–1987)

Slinger's Day is a British sitcom that aired for two series from 1986 to 1987, made by Thames Television for the ITV network. It was a continuation of Tripper's Day, which had originally come to a natural end after Leonard Rossiter's death, and, despite the overwhelmingly negative response it had drawn from reviewers and a section of the viewing public, was revived this time with Bruce Forsyth as a different character to Rossiter but fulfilling the same role, that of the manager of a London supermarket with largely incompetent staff.

Kathleen Laskey, sometimes credited as Kathy Laskey, is a Canadian actress. An alumna of The Second City's Toronto troupe, she is most commonly but not exclusively associated with comedic and voice roles. She also voiced Squeak the Mouse on the children's TV show, Peep and the Big Wide World.

"Pinewood" is the eighteenth episode of the second season, and 40th episode overall from the Fox series Gotham. The episode was written by co-executive producer Robert Hull and Megan Mostyn-Brown and directed by executive producer John Stephens in his first Gotham episode directed. It was first broadcast on April 18, 2016. In the episode, Bruce and Alfred set to find out information about a program called Pinewood Farms which had something to do with Thomas Wayne's death and involvement while Gordon sets out to find The Lady and Dr. Strange continues his experiments.

"Transference" is the twenty-second episode and season finale of the second season, and 44th episode overall from the Fox series Gotham. This is also the last episode in the series with the subtitle "Wrath of the Villains". The episode was written by developer and showrunner Bruno Heller and directed by Eagle Egilsson. It was first broadcast on May 23, 2016. In the episode, Lucius and Bruce are being held in a room by Nygma, ready to kill them unless they tell him information. Meanwhile, Gordon tries to stop Professor Strange once and for all while Basil Karlo begins to fake being Gordon after his experiment. The episode marked the end of the Strange story arc, which culminated with his arrest. The episode is also dedicated to the memory of Doug Kraner, production designer of the show, who died on April 4, 2016, at the age of 65 of cancer.

Jeff Pustil is a Canadian actor, director and writer. He is best known for his role as Jack Christian in the television series Check It Out!.
