Geography

Cherukallayi Kunnu is a hill that is located on Mount Veera. Parts of Mahe can be seen from the hill’s peak.

Kallai Pandakkal road passes through Cherukallayi, connecting it to one of the national highways in the union territory of Puducherry.

Pondicherry University, also known as PU, is a central research university located in Kalapet, Pondicherry in Union Territory of Puducherry, India. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 1985 by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The Vice President of India is the Chancellor along with the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry acting as the Chief Rector and the President of India is the Visitor of the university. The university is a collegiate university with its jurisdiction spread over the Union Territory of Puducherry located in Tamil Nadu, Kerala (Mahé) and Andhra Pradesh (Yanam), and Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Mahé municipality is the seat of local administration of the Mahé Region which belongs to the Union Territory of Puducherry. Mahé Municipality has been in existence for more than 200 years since its establishment under the French Regime. Mahé Municipal area comprises 9 km2 with a single Assembly Constituency. The last Mayor and the first Chairman of this municipality was Late. V. N. Purushothaman. Municipal Council was not in existence with effect from 1978. Thereafter the Regional Administrator, Mahé / Regional Executive Officer, Mahé used to exercise the power of the chairman and Vice-chairman in the capacity of special officer of Mahé Municipal Council. After 1978, an elected Municipal Council was only in power during 2006–11.

Vilangan Hills is a hillock located in Adat Panchayat, near Thrissur city of Kerala state in India. The hill gives a panoramic view of Thrissur city and Thrissur-Ponnani Kole Wetlands from the top. The hill was referred as an Oxygen Jar of Thrissur city. The name 'Vilangan Kunnu' is a misnomer because 'Vilangan' itself means hill. There is no need of adding 'Kunnu' after 'Vilangan'. It is an ancient Malayalam word derived from proto-Dravidian language. Till the 1970s the word 'Kunnu' was not used by revenue authorities and locals. It is a recent addition. In Tamil too 'Vilangan' means hill.
