Cheryl L. Mason is an American attorney,and former executive and government official for the Department of Veterans Affairs. From November 2017 until August 2022,she served as the fourth Senate-confirmed first woman and military spouse Chairman of the Board of Veterans' Appeals. [1] In 2020,she was named a PREVENTS Task Force Ambassador,along with Lead Ambassador Second Lady Karen Pence. PREVENTS was the first national public health campaign to address suicide prevention. Previously Mason served as Deputy Vice Chairman,Chief Veterans Law Judge,and Veterans Law Judge at the Board. [2] Starting in early 2021,Chairman Mason has worked closely with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden’s Joining Forces initiative to address the challenges and issues of military and veterans families to include military spouse employment and veterans transition. Chairman Mason also serves as a VA champion and advocate for suicide prevention.
A graduate of Ohio Northern University and Creighton University School of Law,Mason served as an intern for U.S. Representative Bob McEwen. After law school,she worked in private practice in Omaha,Nebraska. Mason became a paralegal coordinator for Central Texas College and an instructor at Central Texas College's branch at Kaiserslautern Military Community in Germany. She was an attorney with the Federal Labor Relations Authority and was a Department of the Air Force (DAF) Civilian with the United States Air Forces in Europe at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Mason also served as a contract attorney investigator for the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division specializing in the Americans with Disabilities Act. [2]

The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention is an American suicide prevention organization coordinating national efforts to advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention (NSSP). It is a public/private partnership that,according to them,"catalyzes planning,implementation,and accountability for updating and advancing the NSSP. The Action Alliance works on the 2001 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention and is an outgrowth of the Suicide Prevention Resource Center. The Action Alliance initially focused on three high-risk populations:LGBT youth,American Indians/Alaska Natives,and military/veterans. Part of the group's campaign will be to educate on the warning signs of suicide,promoting the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline,as well as community crisis clinics across the U.S.
The Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA) is an administrative tribunal within the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA),located in Washington,D.C. Established by Executive Order on July 28,1933,it determines whether U.S. military veterans are entitled to claimed veterans' benefits and services. The Board's mission is to conduct hearings and decide appeals properly before the Board in a timely manner. The Board's jurisdiction extends to all questions in matters involving a decision by the Secretary under a law that affects a provision of benefits by the Secretary to Veterans,their dependents,or their Survivors. Final decision on such appeals are made by the Board based on the entire record in the proceedings and upon consideration of all evidence and applicable provisions of law and regulation. The Board's review is de novo.
Justin Constantine was a lieutenant colonel in the United States Marine Corps and an attorney.
