The Chicago Board of Trade Battery was an artillery battery that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
The Chicago Board of Trade Battery was mustered into service at Chicago, Illinois, on August 1, 1862. [1] It was sponsored by the Chicago Board of Trade, from which the battery took its name. [2]
In March 1863, the battery changed from mounted field artillery to "flying" horse artillery, the only battery of flying artillery in the Union Western armies. [1] The battery was mustered out on June 30, 1865, in Chicago. [1]
During its term of service, the battery lost 10 enlisted men killed in action or died of their wounds and 9 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 19 fatalities. [3]

After performing garrison duty for most of 1864, the unit fought at Nashville in December. In spring 1865, the battery fought at Spanish Fort and Fort Blakeley during operations against Mobile, Alabama. The battery was mustered out in August 1865.

The battery served in the Atlanta campaign and at Nashville in 1864. It was mustered out of federal service in July 1865. The battery's first commander was John Wesley Powell who later led an exploration of the Grand Canyon.

The battery was organized in June 1862 at Springfield, Illinois. The unit was assigned to guard the railroad in West Virginia and was captured and paroled when Harpers Ferry surrendered in September 1862. After exchange, the battery took part in the Knoxville campaign in the fall and winter of 1863. The unit was stationed in Kentucky until it was mustered out in April 1864. Personnel were transferred to Battery C and Battery H, 2nd Illinois Light Artillery Regiment.
Henshaw's Battery Illinois Light Artillery was an artillery battery from Illinois that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The battery was mustered into service in December 1862 and assigned to guard duty in Kentucky. In July 1863, the battery helped capture John Hunt Morgan's raiders at Buffington Island and Salineville. Beginning in August 1863, the unit took part in Ambrose Burnside's campaign in East Tennessee and the Knoxville campaign. It spent the rest of the war on garrison in east Tennessee before being mustered out of service in July 1865.
