The Chicago Invitational Challenge was an annual early-season college basketball tournament that took place around Thanksgiving week Division I college basketball tournament is an annual early-season college basketball tournament that takes place Thanksgiving week. The Chicago Invitational Challenge was first held during the 2006-07 season, the final event occurred during the 2011–12 season. For the format of the tournament the opening two rounds were played on campus sites, The semifinals and finals were contested using a 4 team tournament with a 3rd place game. Throughout the duration of the tournament expect in 2009 the semifinal and final rounds were played at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, In 2009 the village of Hoffman Estates, Illinois acquired the NOW Arena [1] (formerly Sears Centre Arena) through a Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure process, as a result the 2009 was Chicago Invitational Challenge was moved to UIC Pavilion. The tournament was owned and operated by Basketball Tournaments, Inc.

The Bradley Braves men's basketball team represents Bradley University, located in Peoria, Illinois, in NCAA Division I basketball competition. They compete as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. The Braves are currently coached by Brian Wardle and play their home games at Carver Arena.

In the championship game, the Toledo Rockets defeated the USC Trojans, 76–68, before a sellout crowd of 7,301 at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio. The tournament MVP, Naama Shafir, scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Rockets.
Martell Bailey is an American basketball player who is most notable for his time spent as point guard for the UIC Flames men's basketball team from 2001 to 2004. He was the 2002–03 NCAA Division I men's basketball season assists leader and holds the Horizon League records for single-season and career assists in conference games. He was a two-time second team All-Horizon League selection, and he led the Flames to three of the four post season tournaments they have ever participated in, including two of their three NCAA Division I men's basketball tournaments. Bailey's three seasons at UIC are the school's only consecutive 20-win seasons and culminated with a school record 24 wins. He was not accorded a fourth year of eligibility for academic reasons.
The 2014 Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) was a single-elimination tournament of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2014 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament or 2014 WNIT. The field of 16 was announced on March 17, 2014. All games were hosted by the higher seed throughout the tournament, unless the higher seed's arena was unavailable. The championship game was hosted by the school with the higher end of the season RPI. The tournament was won by the UIC Flames of the University of Illinois Chicago.
The 2018 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 16, 2018, and concluded with the national championship game on Sunday, April 1. The Final Four was played at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. This is the third time that the women's Final Four was played in Ohio after previously being held in Cincinnati in 1997 and Cleveland in 2007 and the first time that the women's Final Four was played in Columbus. For only the fourth time in the tournament’s 37-year history, all four of the number one seeds made it to the Final Four.
The Chicago Rockers were a men's professional basketball team based in Chicago from 1994 to 1996. The Rockers competed in the American Conference of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). The team was owned by Chris Devine, a Chicago businessman. Home games were played at UIC Pavilion.
The 2019 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 64 teams to determine the national champion for the 2018–19 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The 38th annual edition of the tournament began on March 22, and concluded with the championship game on April 7 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, with the University of South Florida serving as host. The tournament field was announced on March 18.
The 2018–19 Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team represented Loyola University Chicago during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Ramblers, led by seventh-year head coach Porter Moser, played their home games at the Joseph J. Gentile Arena in Chicago, Illinois. They were members of the Missouri Valley Conference. They finished the season 20–14, 12–6 in MVC play to earn a share of the MVC regular season championship. As the No. 1 seed in the MVC tournament, they beat Valparaiso before losing to Bradley in the semifinals. As a regular season conference champion who did not win their tournament championship, the Ramblers received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament as the No. 7 seed in the TCU bracket. There they lost in the first round to Creighton.

The Ramblers, led by eighth-year head coach Porter Moser, played their home games at the Joseph J. Gentile Arena in Chicago, Illinois as members of the Missouri Valley Conference. They finished the season 21–11, 13–5 in MVC play to finish in second place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the MVC tournament to Valparaiso.
The 2013 Big Ten women's basketball tournament was held March 7 through March 12 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The Big Ten Network carried all games except the championship game which was aired by ESPN2. Purdue won the tournament and received an automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA tournament.
