Chickenfeed (2006) is a crime novel la by English writer Minette Walters, published as part of the " Quick Reads ", designed to promote literacy through short, simply written and fast moving stories.

Synopsis

Based on the real life case of Elsie Cameron, a woman whose body was dismembered by her fiancé, Norman Thorne, who was hanged for her murder in 1924. Walters re-creates the events leading up to the crime and writes from the perspective of both Elsie and Norman, as their relationship slowly turns sour and Norman yearns to be free from Elsie. [1]

Dennis Tanner is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera Coronation Street, played by Philip Lowrie. The character was created by writer Tony Warren and was introduced in the first episode on 9 December 1960. Lowrie remained in the role for just over a year before being written out unexpectedly in 1962 when a strike by the actor's union Equity prevented new contracts being signed. Although the strike ended a few months later, Lowrie chose not to return until a year later. Norman Thorne was an English Sunday school teacher and chicken farmer who was convicted and hanged for what became known as the chicken run murder. Thorne murdered his fiancée Elsie Cameron on 5 December 1924 at his chicken farm in Crowborough, Sussex, and later dismembered and buried her body.
