Chintaman Rao Dhivruji Gautam (born 18 October 1899) was the first member of parliament from Balaghat constituency of Madhya Pradesh, India. [1] He was a member of the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Indian parliaments. [1] [2] [3] [4] He was a member of the Indian National Congress political party.

He was a lawyer by profession. On 8 November 1950 he led a successful case against the State of Madhya Pradesh in favour of bidi manufacturers and workers, challenging whether it is proper for the State to pass an Act which may contravene the rights conferred by the constitution. [5] This case is used as a text book reference among the students of Law in India. [6]

Manibhai Jaberbhai Patel (1920-1996) was an Indian industrialist, writer, politician and a member of the 4th Lok Sabha. He represented Damoh Lok Sabha constituency from 1967 and was a member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly for two terms, from 1957–62 and 1962–67. He was the author of a number of books which included Nehru Vani, Janata ke Jawahar, Shantidoot Shastriji, Shreemati Indira Gandhi, Panchayaten Aur Humara Dayitwa and Pagdandiyon ki Awaz. The Government of India awarded him Padma Bhushan, the third highest Indian civilian award, in 1971.

He was elected to the Lower House of Parliament the Lok Sabha 7th & 8th loksabha two consecutive terms from Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh, India as a member of the Indian National Congress. He was Chairman of Madhya Pradesh State Bar Council for over a decade. National Vice-President of Seva Dal from 1987 to 1989, President of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress 1985–1987, University President of Student Union at Dr Hari Singh Gour University 1968-1970 Founder member of Shikshak Congress and Currently Senior Vice-President of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee.
