Chinwe Nwaebili is the former Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Anambra State, Nigeria. She was addressed as the Rt. Hon. Barr. Princess Chinwe Nwaebili. She was the second female Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly. [1] Before becoming the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinwe Nwaebili chaired four different committees in the State House of Assembly. [2] She belonged to All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) political party but in 2021, she joined the African Action Congress (AAC) political party and contested for Deputy Governor of Anambra State with Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo as the coming Governor. She had formerly announced her intention to run for the Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the 2019 general elections under APGA. [3]

Early life and education

Hon. Chinwe is from Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State. She was married to the Late Prince Azubuike Patrick Nwaebili whose 10th Year memorial service was held in Asaba, Delta State. [4]

Political career

Chinwe Nwabili was a member of APGA political party, through which she emerged as the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly. In 2021 she left APGA and joined the AAC political party. She became the running mate of Dr. Chidozie Nwankwo on the campaign for the Governorship election in Anambra State. [5] In 2009, during the climate change workshop for the government actors, organized by PASDO, Hon. Chinwe contributed to the concern for the environment. [6] She was said to have empowered the youth in her community. [7]

Gwacham polled 15,299 to defeat the candidate of Young Progressive Party, YPP Charles Uchenna Okafor who scored 13,332 votes People's Democratic Party, PDP candidate and former member of the House of Representatives received only 6,912 votes. The election of Gwacham is being challenged by the candidates o f the YPP, PDP and Labour Party at the election petitions tribunal.

However, Sir Paul was replaced with Law Mefor when he resigned from his appointment as a Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment. The news had it that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo sacked him as he resigned the same day the new Commissioner was sworn in. However, his resignation letter was revealed which stated, “I wish to resign my appointment as the Commissioner, Anambra State. I have consistently been in the service of Anambra State Government for ten years and six months and I think it is about time to move on to other things. My wife, Neta, and I are very grateful for the opportunity you have given to serve Anambra State. We are confident that with the policies and programmes you have enunciated, Anambra State is destined to become the liveable and prosperous homeland you promised our people.” He was the chairman of BeeCharity Outlook Foundation, an NGO focused on child labour eradication.

Amaka Obi is a politician. She is the only female chairman elected in the 2024 local government area election in Anambra State, Nigeria, out of the twenty-one local governments. She is the Idemili South local government area Chairman and a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) political party in Nigeria. She in turn inaugurated her council members at the council headquarters in Ojoto and charged them “to represent the interest of the people through commitment and diligence.” It should be recalled that globally, women are being empowered and encouraged to be part of the governance in their areas. According to UNDP, “this initiative aims to improve capacity for existing and emerging women leaders including young/marginalized women, accelerate the implementation of legislation on gender equality in leadership and elections, and sustain peace and violence prevention in electoral processes." Although many women are facing challenges in different countries in being part of the decision making bodies, the UN Women declared that “individual women have overcome these obstacles with great acclaim, and often to the benefit of society at large. But for women as a whole, the playing field needs to be level, opening opportunities for all.”

Rita Mmaduagwu is a Nigerian politician and Lawyer. She was the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly from 2015 -2017. She is the third female Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly. She served two tenures as a legislator in Anambra State. She was first elected in 2011 and represented the Nnewi South constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2012, Maduagwu defected to All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA where she was given the APGA membership cards by their ward chairmen.
