Chris St. Clair is a former Italy international rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played for Balmain in the ARL/NRL competition.

Playing career

St. Clair made his first grade debut for Balmain in round 13 of the 1997 ARL season against Illawarra at WIN Stadium. He played off the bench in Balmain's 18-6 victory. St. Clair was limited to only three appearances for the club in 1997. In the 1998 NRL season, St. Clair made four appearances throughout the year. In the same year, St. Clair played one representative match for Italy against Lebanon at Leichhardt Oval and later played in game 3 of the 1999 Mediterranean Cup against France. After departing Balmain, St. Clair played for St Gaudens Bears in the French Elite One division and for York in England. [2] [3]

The Balmain Tigers are a rugby league club based in the inner-western Sydney suburb of Balmain. They were a founding member of the New South Wales Rugby League and one of the most successful in the history of the premiership, with eleven titles. In 1999 they formed a joint venture club with the Western Suburbs Magpies club to form the Wests Tigers for competition in the National Rugby League (NRL). They no longer field any senior teams in the lower divisions. At the time of the joint venture only South Sydney Rabbitohs and the St George Dragons had won more titles than the Tigers.

The Adelaide Rams was an Australian professional rugby league football club based in Adelaide, South Australia. The team was formed in 1995 for the planned rebel Super League competition. The Rams lasted two seasons, the first in the Super League competition in 1997 and the second in the first season of the National Rugby League (NRL) in 1998. The Rams were not a successful club, winning only 13 out of 42 games. However crowd numbers in the first season were the fifth highest of any first-grade club that year, but dwindled to sixteenth in the second season. The Adelaide club was shut down at the end of the 1998 season as a result of poor on-field performances, dwindling crowd numbers, financial losses and a reduction in the number of teams in the NRL. They remain the only team from the state of South Australia to have participated in top-level rugby league in Australia.

The Western Reds were a rugby league football club based in Perth, Western Australia. Founded in 1992 as the Western Reds, they entered into the Australian Rugby League competition in 1995 before defecting to the rival Super League competition in 1997, where they rebranded themselves as the Perth Reds. However, by the end of the year the Reds had become a casualty of the Super League War peace deal and were shut down. The name Reds was named after the native Red Kangaroos. The Reds entered a state of limbo for the next decade but were revived as a lower-level club in 2006 by the WARL and ARL, under the name WA Reds.

A state and international representative who played 12 matches for Other Nationalities in the International Championship from 1949 to 1955, he played as a second-row and has been referred to as the best Australian rugby league player never to be picked for the Australian national team. Jim Craig (1895–1959) was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach. He was a versatile back for the Australian national team. He played in seven tests between 1921 and 1928 as captain on three occasions and has since been named amongst the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century. Craig was a player of unparalleled versatility. It is known that he represented in Tests at fullback, centre, halfback and hooker with some of his club and tour football played at winger, five-eighth and lock forward. Shannon Nevin is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and the Balmain Tigers in the National Rugby League (NRL) and its predecessor the Australian Rugby League (ARL).

Neil Whittaker is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s for Balmain in the NSWRL competition. Whittaker was also the chief executive officer of the National Rugby League from 1998 to 1999.

Gary Edwards is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played for the Balmain and North Sydney in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) and ARL competitions.

Brad Smith is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s.

Marshall Scott is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played for Balmain and Western Suburbs in the NRL competition.

Greg Donaghey is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played for Manly-Warringah and Balmain in NSWRL, ARL and NRL competitions.
