North Sulawesi is a province of Indonesia. It is mainly located on the Minahasa Peninsula of the island of Sulawesi, south of the Philippines and southeast of Sabah, Malaysia, but also includes various small archipelagoes situated between the Minahasa Peninsula and southern Philippines. It borders the Philippines province of Davao Occidental and Soccsksargen regions to the north, the Maluku Sea to the east, Gorontalo and the Celebes Sea to the west and the Gulf of Tomini to the southwest. The province's furthest extent, the outlying and isolated island of Miangas to its north, is the northernmost island of Indonesia that has the country's sole and only border with the Philippines.

With more than 200,000 speakers, it is the major language of the regency. Historically, it served as the official language of the Bolaang Mongondow Kingdom.

The regency covers a land area of 2,933.6 km2, and had a population of 213,484 at the 2010 Census and 248,751 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 254,945.
North Bolaang Mongondow Regency is a regency of North Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. It was created on 2 January 2007 by splitting off districts which had previously been the western part of Bolaang Mongondow Regency. The regency covers an area of 1,672.61 km2 and had a population of 70,693 at the 2010 Census and 83,112 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 86,111. Bitauna is the only official town (kelurahan) in the regency, but the administrative centre is at Boroko.
South Bolaang Mongondow Regency is a regency of North Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. The Regency stretches along the south coast of the province as part of the Minahasa Peninsula, facing the Gulf of Tomini. It was created on 24 June 2008 by splitting off districts which were previously the southern part of Bolaang Mongondow Regency. It covers a land area of 1,932.30 km2, and had a population of 57,001 at the 2010 Census, which rose to 69,791 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 73,046. The administrative centre lies at the town of Molibagu.
Kotamobagu is a city in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Having previously been a town within the Bolaang Mongondow Regency, Kotamobagu was separated from that regency on 2 January 2007 to become an autonomous city. It is the principal centre of the southern part of the province, the Bolaang Mongondow region, which has been under consideration by the Indonesian government to be separated from the rest of North Sulawesi and formed into a separate province. The city covers an area of 108.89 km2, and had a population of 107,459 at the 2010 Census, rising to 123,722 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 123,918.
Bolaang Mongondow Airport, is located in Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The airport is named after the former king of the Kingdom of Bolaang Mongondow, Loloda Mokoagow. The first plane landed at the airport on 18 February 2024.
Bobongko is an Austronesian language of the Togian Islands off the eastern peninsula of the island of Sulawesi. It belongs to the Saluan–Banggai branch of the Celebic subgroup. Bobongko also contains several loanwords of Gorontalo–Mongondow origin.
Ponosakan is a moribund Austronesian language spoken in the vicinity of the district of Belang, Southeast Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. This language is almost extinct, with only four fluent speakers left as of November 2014.

The Mongondow or Bolaang Mongondow people are an ethnic group native to the north-eastern part of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The Mongondows are predominantly Muslim. They have traditionally been concentrated in the provinces of North Sulawesi and Gorontalo. This ethnic group used to be united by a single entity, the Kingdom of Bolaang Mongondow, which became the western regencies of North Sulawesi after the Indonesian independence.
The Kingdom of Bolaang Mongondow, previously known as Kingdom of Bola'ang, was a state that ruled over the majority of the area of the present-day Bolaang-Mongondow regencies in the North Sulawesi province of Indonesia, excluding the present North Bolaang Mongondow Regency, which was a territory that was ruled by smaller kingdoms of Bintauna and Kaidipang.
