Christine Schaffner (born 3 February 1979) is a Swiss mountain bike orienteer and world champion. She has participated in all seven World MTB Orienteering Championships from 2004 to 2010, and won gold medals in the long distance four times, in 2006, [1] 2008, [2] 2009 [3] and 2010. [4]
Schaffner competed at the 2004 World MTB Orienteering Championships Ballarat, where she placed 16th in the middle distance and 11th in the long distance. [5] At the 2005 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Banska Bystrica she won a silver medal in the middle distance behind Michaela Gigon, and placed 16th in the long course. She participated on the Swiss relay team, which placed 8th. [6] At the 2006 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Joensuu, she won her first gold medal in the long course, ahead of Ksenia Chernykh and Ingrid Stengård, and placed 10th in the middle distance. [1] At the 2007 World Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave she won a bronze medal in the long distance, placed fourth in the middle and fifth in sprint, while the Swiss relay team placed fifth. [7] At the 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Ostróda she won her second gold medal in the long distance, ahead of Marika Hara from Finland. She placed ninth in the sprint. [2] In Ben Shemen in 2009 she again won a world championship gold medal in the long distance, ahead of Sonja Zinkl from Austria. She also won a bronze in the middle, placed 6th in the sprint, and won a silver medal in the relay with the Swiss team. [3] Schaffner won her fourth gold medal in the long distance at the 2010 World Championships in Montalegre. She also won a silver medal in the sprint, placed fifth in the middle, and sixth in the relay. [4]
She has won the long course at the Swiss mountain bike orienteering championships seven years in a row from 2003. [8]
She lives in the municipality Köniz, and works as a goldsmith and teacher. [8]
Magne Dæhli is a Norwegian orienteering competitor, ski-orienteer, and cross-country skier. His achievements include five medals in the relay at the World Orienteering Championships, of which three are gold medals. His best individual performances include a silver medal in the long distance from the European Orienteering Championships, and a bronze medal in the middle distance from the 2019 World Orienteering Championships.
Ruslan Gritsan is a Russian competitor and multiple world champion in both ski-orienteering and mountain bike orienteering.
Mika Tervala is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor, World Champion and European Champion. He won individual gold medals at the 2002, 2006 and 2007 World Championships, and a gold medal in the relay in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Mika coaches the Finnish national mountain bike orienteering teams since spring 2008.
Päivi Tommola is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor, World Champion and European Champion. She won individual gold medals at the 2002 and 2005 World Championships, and gold medals in the relay in 2002, 2004 and 2007.
Michaela Gigon is an Austrian mountain bike orienteer and several times world champion. She has competed at all World MTB Orienteering Championships from 2002 to 2010, won individual gold medals in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010, and in relay in 2009.
Adrian Jackson is an Australian mountain bike orienteering competitor and World Champion. He has won individual gold medals at the 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010 World MTB Orienteering Championships.
Ksenia Chernykh is a Russian mountain bike orienteer and World Champion. She won individual gold medals at the 2007 and 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships, and a relay gold medal in 2006.
Ida Bobach is a Danish orienteering competitor who was Junior World Champion in 2009, and became triple Junior World Champion from 2010, when she won the sprint, long distance and the relay. She represents the club OK Pan Århus, and since 2007, has received training from Danish national coach Lars Lindstrøm. In 2015 she won gold medals at the World Championships in the long and Relay.
Marika Hara is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor and world champion.
Ingrid Stengård is a Finnish mountain bike orienteering competitor. She won two individual bronze medals at the 2006 World MTB Orienteering Championships, and won gold medals with the Finnish relay team in 2007 and 2008.
Anton Foliforov is a Russian mountain bike orienteer. He won an individual gold medal at the 2010 World MTB Orienteering Championships, and won gold medals with the Russian relay team in 2009 and 2010.
Jiří Hradil is a Czech mountain bike orienteer. He won a silver medal in the sprint event at the 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Ostróda. At the 2009 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Ben Shemen he won a silver medal in the middle distance, and a silver medal with the Czech relay team.
Lubomír Tomeček is a Czech mountain bike orienteer and ski orienteer. He won a bronze medal in the middle distance at the 2007 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave, and a bronze medal at the 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Ostróda. With the Czech relay team he won medals at the 2007, 2008 and 2009 World MTB Orienteering Championships.
Jaroslav Rygl is a Czech mountain bike orienteer and ski orienteering competitor. He won a silver medal in the middle distance at the 2005 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Banska Bystrica, and a bronze medal in the long distance at the 2007 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave. With the Czech relay team he won medals at the 2007 and 2008 World MTB Orienteering Championships.
Markéta Jirásková is a Czech mountain bike orienteer. She won a bronze medal in the middle distance at the 2007 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave. She placed 8th in the long distance, and 14th in the sprint event.
Jérémie Gillmann is a French mountain bike orienteer. At the 2002 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Fontainebleau he won a silver medal in the long distance, and a bronze medal in the sprint. At the 2007 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Nove Mesto na Morave he won silver medals in the sprint and the middle distance, and a gold medal with the French relay team.
Sonja Zinkl is an Austrian mountain bike orienteer. At the 2009 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Ben Shemen, she won a silver medal in the long distance, and a gold medal in the relay, together with Elisabeth Hohenwarter and Michaela Gigon.
Antje Bornhak is a German mountain bike orienteer. At the 2002 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Fontainebleau she won a bronze medal in the long distance, and a bronze medal in the sprint. At the 2004 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Ballarat she won a bronze medal in the long course. At the 2005 World Championships in Banska Bystrica she won a gold medal in the relay, together with Anke Dannowski and Gerit Pfuhl, and a silver medal in the long distance.
Gerit Pfuhl is a German mountain bike orienteer. At the 2005 World MTB Orienteering Championships in Banska Bystrica she won a gold medal in the relay, together with Anke Dannowski and Antje Bornhak.
Karolin Ohlsson is a Swedish orienteering competitor who competes internationally. She became world champion in the sprint relay in 2018.
