Christoph D'Haese (born 25 February 1967) is a Belgian politician and is affiliated to the N-VA. [1]
D'Haese was born in 1967 in Aalst. He studied for a degree in law at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU-Leuven) and the University of Strasbourg. He worked as a lawyer specializing in criminal law and taught law at KU-Leuven. He also served on the Bar of Dendermonde until 2013. [2] [1] In 2006,he was elected to the municipal council of Aalst for the Open VLD party and became chairman of the local council. In 2011,he left the Open-VLD and joined the New Flemish Alliance. [2] In 2014,he was elected as the Member of the Chamber of Representatives for the East Flanders constituency. [3]
D'Haese has also served as the mayor of Aalst since 2013. In 2019,D'Haese became involved in a dispute with UNESCO after UNESCO threatened to remove the Aalst Carnival from its world list of cultural heritage due to what was seen as anti-Semitic imagery on a float at the carnival. D'Haese argued that the floats featured at the carnival were based on satire rather than racism;however,the float was condemned by fellow N-VA politician AndréGantman,who is Jewish. [4] Unia,the Belgian independent arbitrator for matters concerning discrimination,found that no laws had been broken. [5] The incident led to widespread condemnation from multiple organizations,including the European Commission. [6]
Aalst is a city and municipality in the province of East Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located on the Dender River,about 31 kilometres (19 mi) northwest of Brussels. The municipality comprises the city of Aalst itself and the villages of Baardegem,Erembodegem,Gijzegem,Herdersem,Hofstade,Meldert,Moorsel and Nieuwerkerken;it is the tenth largest city by population with 90.068 inhabitants. Aalst is crossed by the Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek in Aalst and Hofstade. The current mayor of Aalst is Christoph D'Haese,from the New-Flemish Alliance party. The town has a long-standing folkloric feud with Dendermonde,north along the same river,which dates from the Middle Ages.
Ninove is a city and municipality in the Flemish province of East Flanders in Belgium. It is on the river Dender,and is part of the Denderstreek. The municipality comprises the city of Ninove proper and since the 1976 merger of the towns of Appelterre-Eichem,Aspelare,Denderwindeke,Lieferinge,Meerbeke,Nederhasselt,Neigem,Okegem,Outer,Pollare and Voorde. On 1 January 2023 Ninove had a total population of 40.090. The total area is 72.57 km2 which gives a population density of 553 inhabitants per km2.

Alfons "Fons" Borginon is a Belgian politician and lawyer. He was a member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives between 1995 and 2007. Borginon was the last chairman of the Volksunie and Flemish Liberals and Democrats (VLD) floor leader from 2006 until the general election of 2007. He was also granted knighthood in the Belgian Order of Leopold. He is married to Kristin Ex and father of Hendrik,Irene and Margreet.
Nova Civitas was a Flemish think tank based on the principles of classic liberalism in combination with Anglo-Saxon conservatism. Nova Civitas claimed at its founding to be completely independent,although it was recognized and supported by the Flemish Liberal Party (VLD). The Founding Chairman of Nova Civitas,Boudewijn Bouckaert,was a long-time board member of the VLD.
