Edmund Georg Hermann Landau was a German mathematician who worked in the fields of number theory and complex analysis.
Karl Hermann Johannes Thiele was a German zoologist specialized in malacology. Thiele was born in Goldap, East Prussia. His Handbuch der systematischen Weichtierkunde is a standard work. From 1904 until his retirement in 1925 he was the curator of the malacological collection at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin. Thiele described more than 1.500 new species of molluscs; until today their types are deposited with the Museum of Natural History in Berlin. Especially important are his works on the Mollusca of the First German Antarctica Expedition and of the German Deep Sea Expedition aboard the vessel Valdivia.
Hermann Hirt was a German philologist and Indo-Europeanist.

Handbuch des Schachspiels is a chess book, first published in 1843 by Tassilo von Heydebrand und der Lasa. It was a comprehensive reference book on the game, and one of the most important references on opening theory for many decades. The Handbuch had been the project of Paul Rudolf von Bilguer, who was with von der Lasa a member of the Berlin Chess Club and the influential group of chess masters later called the Berlin Pleiades. Bilguer died in 1840, with the work still in the early stages. Von der Lasa completed the project and saw it published, with his friend von Bilguer alone named as author. It contained comprehensive analyses of all opening variations then known, plus a section on the history and literature of chess.
The Wych Elm cultivar Ulmus glabra 'Latifolia Aurea' was listed by Schelle in Beissner et al. Handbuch der Laubholz-Benennung 84. 1903, but without description.

The Field Elm cultivar Ulmus minor 'Purpurascens' was listed by Lavallée in Arboretum Segrezianum (1877) as U. campestris var. purpurascens (purpurea), but without description, and later by Schneider in Illustriertes Handbuch der Laubholzkunde (1904). Krüssmann in Handbuch der Laubgehölze (1962) identified it as a cultivar.

Anton Weichselbaum was an Austrian pathologist and bacteriologist born near the town of Langenlois. Weichselbaum was among the first scientists to recognize the importance of bacteriology for the field of pathological anatomy.
Ernst Schelle (1864–1945) was a German botanist who specialized in cacti. He was employed as Inspector of the botanical gardens in Tübingen. The grass species Helictotrichon schellianum(Hack.) Kitag. is named for him.
