Chromaphase (born 1985 in Lens, France; birthname Matthieu Tondeur) is a Shanghai-based video artist. He is known for mixing his own cinematographic footages with graphic creations, mainly associated with Electronic live bands and DJs. Performing Digital Art and VJing mainly in Asia. He is considered as one of the most talented VJ in Shanghai. [1] In 2014, he began to build permanent visual system for venues.

History

Chromaphase began in 2007 with the Nu jazz Band Wipping Willow in France. During 2 years he performed in some of the most famous venues in Paris (La Fleche D'or, Le Trabendo, La Scene Bastille...) and Festivals (Nuit du Sud, Dailymotion Festival).

After arriving in Shanghai in 2009, Chromaphase began his career in VJ as an independent. He performed beside International DJs such The Twelves, kode9, [2] R3, Achun, College [3] and Chinese DJs such Ceezy, [4] DJ Hbd, Sulumi, Howie Lee, and Lin Feng. All those cooperations made Chromaphase evolve in his style, finding new inspiration to match the style of each artist. He also explored live band performances (Jupiter, [5] Mao Livehouse Shanghai 2012) and special events such the Jean-Paul Gaultier Fashion Show Party in Beijing [6] and MMAX Beijing Festival. [7]

Besides being a solo performer, Chromaphase made cooperated live with several artists including kode9, The Twelves, College, Jupiter, Wipping Willow, r3, Achun, Sulumi, DMC Winners DJ HBD and DJ Monk, and Ceezy.

The Arch is a nightclub in Brighton, England. The club became famous for its cultural, art and music events, particularly its dance and acid house nights held throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. VJing is a broad designation for realtime visual performance. Characteristics of VJing are the creation or manipulation of imagery in realtime through technological mediation and for an audience, in synchronization to music. VJing often takes place at events such as concerts, nightclubs, music festivals and sometimes in combination with other performative arts. This results in a live multimedia performance that can include music, actors and dancers. The term VJing became popular in its association with MTV's Video Jockey but its origins date back to the New York club scene of the 70s. In both situations VJing is the manipulation or selection of visuals, the same way DJing is a selection and manipulation of audio.

Addictive TV are digital artists known for their movie supercuts and creation of audiovisual remix material, sampling movies and TV. After a number of years recording and filming musicians around the world, in 2017 they signed with German label !K7 to release the album of their Orchestra of Samples project, fusing electronic and world music. Based in London, the group comprises Graham Daniels and Mark Vidler. From 2000 to 2005 they produced the DJ:VJ music television series Mixmasters, and in DJMags 2006 annual poll, Addictive TV were voted #1 VJ in the world for a second time - the first being 2004.

RAT Parties were a series of large dance parties held in Sydney, Australia during the 1980s and early 1990s. The Powerhouse Museum said that they "formed a key element of an emerging subculture" that was fashion-aware, gay-friendly, appreciated dance music and open, outrageous celebration. Along with the rise of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, the success of RAT Parties marked a groundswell of acceptance of Sydney's gay & lesbian community. RAT parties are credited with introducing the visual performance art of VJing to Australia.

Primavera Sound

Primavera Sound is a music festival that takes place between the end of May and beginning of June in Barcelona, Spain. The first edition took place in 2001 in Poble Espanyol and moved to the Parc del Fòrum, a much larger site on the seafront, in 2005. The nature of the festival and the wide range of bands represented have made Primavera Sound a meeting point for artists and spectators from all generations. In 2012 the festival expanded to Porto, the second biggest city in Portugal under the name NOS Primavera Sound. This one takes place at the Parque da Cidade a week after the Barcelona edition. In September 2022, the festival will celebrate its first edition at the State Historic Park in LA called Primavera Sound Los Angeles. Shelley's Laserdome was a night club in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
