Surabaya International School, Indonesia, was founded in 1971 as a non-profit, English-medium, college preparatory school for foreign students under the sponsorship of the American Consulate. It was called the American Consulate School and began operation with 24 students. Jawi temple is a syncretic Hindu-Buddhist candi (temple) dated from late 13th century Singhasari kingdom. The temple is located on the eastern slope of Mount Welirang, Candi Wates village, Kecamatan Prigen, Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia, approximately 31 kilometers west of Pasuruan city or 41 kilometers south of Surabaya. The temple located on the main road between Kecamatan Pandaan – Kecamatan Prigen and Pringebukan. The temple was thought to be a Hindu-Buddhist place of worship, however the temple actually was dedicated as mortuary temple to honor King Kertanegara, the last king of Singhasari. It is believed that the ashes of the late king were also placed in two more temples, the Singhasari temple and Jago temple.
Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument or can be locally referred to as Monjaya is a statue of an Indonesian Navy officer wearing Ceremonial Service Dress, complete with his sword of honor, staring far to the sea as if he's ready to challenge the ocean's tide and storms. It represents the preparedness of the Indonesian Navy for glory. The statue is standing tall above a building, the total height of the building and the statue reaches 60.6 meters. The House of Sampoerna is a tobacco museum and headquarters of Sampoerna located in Surabaya. The main building's architectural style influenced by Dutch colonial-style compound was built in 1862, and is now a preserved historical site. Previously used as an orphanage managed by the Dutch‚ it was purchased in 1932, by Liem Seeng Tee‚ the founder of Sampoerna‚ with the intent of it being used as Sampoerna's first major cigarette production facility. The compound consisted of a large central auditorium‚ two smaller buildings on the east and west sides and numerous large‚ single story‚ open-space structures behind the central auditorium. The side buildings were converted to family residences and the large warehouse-like structures were used to accommodate facilities for tobacco and clove processing‚ blending‚ hand-rolling and packaging‚ printing and finished goods processing. In commemoration of Sampoerna's 90th anniversary in 2003‚ the central complex has been painstakingly restored and is now open to public. The original central auditorium is now a museum and a shop. The east side has been transformed into a unique structure containing a café and an art gallery. The building on the west side remains the official family residence.
