CitizenCOP is a mobile application, developed by the INFOCRATS Web Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and published in October 2012 as freeware. It is developed with the concept to leverage growing use of smart phones for safety of citizens and promote a crime free environment by encouraging voluntary anonymous crime reporting. [3] [4] CitizenCOP app is currently operating in co-ordination of police departments of Bhopal, Indore, Jhansi, Raipur, Noida, Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai. In Raipur, Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh presided over the launch of CitizenCOP app. For cities where CitizenCOP does not have police association, lite version of the application is working. [5] On 7 March 2016, full version of CitizenCOP was launched in co-ordination of police department of Noida, India. [6] On the occasion of International Women's Day on 8 March 2016, CitizenCOP was launched in Varanasi in co-ordination with the police administration of the city. [7]

Features

CitizenCOP has been bundled with several personal safety and convenience features like /Incident Reporting, SOS Help, Towed Vehicle Search, News and Notifications, GEO Fencing, Police Phone Directory, Report Lost Article, My Safe Zone, etc.

Report an Incident

This feature is the key feature of the app. It gives each citizen a power to anonymously report crime to police. One needs to go to this option on the menu screen where he can upload images or videos of any incident he is witnessing as an evidence. [8] [9] [10] [11]

Help Me (SOS)

This function lets the user send a SOS message for instant Help in emergency situations. The user needs to save up to four trusted contacts, who can be alerted through a SOS message sent via the App in case of emergency. On clicking 'Help Me' button, the application sends an auto generated message along with the real-time GEO location of the user. It also reports the same information to police control room to help them initiate quick action. [12] [13]

Police Phone Directory

This function helps the user to know contact details of police authorities present in nearby police stations. On enabling GPS settings on mobile phone, user can get filtered police contacts that are relevant to user’s current location.

The police while towing a vehicle registers the pickup location and the location where they drop it. The user can search if their vehicle has been towed using the 'Towed Vehicle Search' option and entering Vehicle License plate number and the date. [14] [15]

My Safe Zone

The user can set an area on map as a Safe Zone in which he feels secured. Whenever the user crosses the boundary mentioned, a SOS message will automatically be sent to preset contact numbers along with the police officials. [16]

Police Notifications

This App receives traffic alerts and other important announcements by police. The user also gets notified of any route diversions or heavy traffic forecasts.

Report Lost Article

This feature allows users to report lost article like passport, PAN card, driving license and more instantly. Users do not need to personally go to the police station to lodge a complaint as it can be done via the app. In case of lost mobile, the user receives an email to confirm receipt of complaint. This letter can be used to issue new sim card so user does not have to visit police station.

Travel Safe

This feature allows users to track the authenticity of the Cab, Auto Rickshaw Driver or Guard. It also allows users to send a message to their Emergency Contacts with details of the cab or auto rickshaw they are travelling in.

Awards and recognition


On January 30, 2014 CitizenCOP received an award as Best Emerging Technology at IMC - IT awards 2013. Then on July 18, 2014 CitizenCOP were runners up in the children and women empowerment category at the mBillionth Award South Asia Awards.[ citation needed ]

CitizenCOP has been awarded with "Salaam Madhya Pradesh Award" by Madhya Pradesh Police as the best app for "Innovation in Policing" category.[ citation needed ]

On 13 April 2015, CitizenCOP was presented the e-Governance Excellence Award. The award was given under the category Improvement in Citizen Service Delivery/ Governance through use of IT (Private/ Non Govt Sector). [17] Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the current Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, presided over the ceremony and presented the award.[ citation needed ]

In 2016 CitizenCOP received the Digital India award. [18]

The Large Emergency Event Digital Information Repository (LEEDIR) is a mobile app and web application that allows photo sharing and video sharing and enables citizens to submit pictures and videos directly to law enforcement and relief agencies during major occurrences including natural disasters, terrorist, and criminal events. Police are embracing apps to crowdsource investigations. LEEDIR's free platform that can be activated by law enforcement and/or relief agencies during a major emergency event in the US and is available to receive uploads from citizens immediately after activation. The LEEDIR application platform is supported by providers CitizenGlobal and Amazon Web Services.

Acompli is a discontinued mobile app that allowed for user interaction with email messages as well as management of multiple email accounts in one programme. In addition, the tool also organized one's calendar and shared files. This application provided for integration with cloud storage platforms such as Dropbox, OneDrive, and iCloud; it also carried support for Microsoft Exchange and Gmail. Acompli launched on 24 April 2014. The startup company, which had $7.3 million in funding, was led by CEO Javier Soltero, J.J. Zhuang (CTO) and Kevin Henrikson.

The Nizamabad Police Commissionerate is the local law enforcement agency for the city and district of Nizamabad and is headed by Commissioner of Police. The city police traces its origins to 1847 under Hyderabad State. The whole jurisdiction of the district is administrated by District Police Commissionerate Office located in Nizamabad.

Thiruvananthapuram City Police Mobile App, also known as TCP app, or UR Safe(TM) (previously known as iSafe), is the official mobile application for the citizens and public by the Thiruvananthapuram City Police in Kerala, India. The mobile application is developed by UST, a digital technology services company. The ‘UR Safe’ feature of the app helps people, especially women, to send instant alerts to the police control room by using the Panic Button or by a long press of volume rocker (down) key of their mobile phones and police to arrive at the location.

"TowIt" is a free, global, cross-platform mobile app, website, and Web API that allows civilians to report parking violations and dangerous driving in real-time. The mission is to remove the barriers required to make cities effectively fight and deter bad parking and dangerous driving habits. The company ultimately aims to better existing social controls in order to drive necessary behavioral change through increased education, real-time reporting, optimized enforcement, as well as the resulting reactivity.

Citizen is a mobile app that sends users location-based safety alerts in real time. It allows users to read updates about ongoing reports, broadcast live video, and leave comments. The app uses radio antennas installed in major cities to monitor 911 communications, with employees filtering the audio to generate alerts. The app is currently available for iOS and Android devices in over 60 cities, including New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Philadelphia. Detroit, Indianapolis, Phoenix, Cincinnati, Chicago, Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and Cleveland.

Microsoft Kaizala was a secure messaging and work management software application for collaboration among users inside and outside of organizations, including the ability to send and receive instant messages, coordinate tasks, and submit invoices. It was launched in India in 2017, thereafter expanded to 28 countries, and was launched globally in April 2019 as part of the Office 365 package. It was available internationally, except in a few countries as a free Android, iOS, and web application. Kai zala is a Marathi phrase that means "What happened?"
