The Ciutat de Tarragona International Award for Musical Composition (formerly known as Tarragona International Musical Composition Prize or Ciutat de Tarragona International Composition Competition) is a composition competition taking place yearly [1] in Tarragona (Catalonia, Spain), organized by the Tarragona City Council. [2] It was founded in 1993, [3] and was accepted into the World Federation of International Music Competitions in 1996. [4]

Contents

The competition

The competition is open to all composers, regardless of nationality or age. Symphonic works with or without soloists (up to a maximum of 3 are allowed) and with or without electro-acoustic devices are eligible. Submitted works must be unpublished, must never have been performed in public or have received any award, whether under their current title or any other, and must not have been previously commissioned. Winning work is premiered the following year by the Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra and a 12.000 euro cash prize (in 2010).

Can Framis Museum

Can Framis is the latest Fundació Vila Casas museum, an art center devoted to the promotion of contemporary Catalan painting. Located in the old Can Framis factory complex, the museum displays more than 250 paintings from the sixties to the present made by artists born or currently living in Catalonia. In addition to the permanent collection which is divided in three floors, Can Framis Museum has an area dedicated to temporary exhibitions named Espai Aø. The permanent collection is updated periodically, and two new temporary exhibitions are opened every three months.

Francoist Catalonia

Francoism in Catalonia was established within Francoist Spain between 1939 and 1975, following the Spanish Civil War and post-war Francoist repression. Francisco Franco's regime replaced Revolutionary Catalonia after the Catalonia Offensive at the end of the war. The dictatorship in Catalonia complemented the suppression of democratic freedoms with the repression of Catalan culture. Its totalitarian character and its unifying objectives meant the imposition of a single culture and a single language, Castillian. The regime was specifically anti-Catalan, but this did not stop the development of a Catalan Francoism that was forged during the war and fed by victory.

Eduardo Soutullo is a Spanish composer who began his musical education at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo. Later, he moved to Madrid and to Paris completing his studies in Piano, Music Theory, Harmony and Composition.
