The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is an American labor union representing over 670,000 employees of the federal government, about 5,000 employees of the District of Columbia, and a few hundred private sector employees, mostly in and around federal facilities. AFGE is the largest union for civilian, non-postal federal employees and the largest union for District of Columbia employees who report directly to the mayor. It is affiliated with the AFL–CIO.

NAGE represents a variety of workers including state and federal government employees, municipal employees, registered nurses, EMS professionals including EMTs and paramedics, firefighters, law enforcement professionals including police and correctional officers and military air technicians. NAGE is an affiliate of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) is a 600,000-member New York state teachers union, affiliated since 2006 with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the AFL–CIO, and the National Education Association (NEA). NYSUT is an umbrella group which provides services to local affiliates in New York state; lobbies on the local, state and federal level; conducts research; and organizes new members.

AMAPCEO, formerly known as the Association of Management, Administrative and Professional Crown Employees of Ontario, is a trade union representing public servants in the Canadian Province of Ontario. The name is pronounced "a-map-see-oh", and is typically displayed with the tagline "Ontario's Professional Employees".
The California State Employees Association (CSEA), was founded in 1932 in Sacramento, California. The organization itself grew out of a campaign to pass a ballot initiative to amend the California state constitution to create a retirement system for California state workers. As a result of the campaign, the core of leadership for the campaign went on to create the association to maintain the momentum of that political victory by forming a credit union, now known as The Golden One Credit Union, for state employees, winning voter approval of the merit system for state civil service, and a 40-hour workweek and, finally in 1979, winning collective bargaining rights for state and university employees in the California legislature, also known as the Dills Act after its author Senator Ralph C. Dills. When California adopted collective bargaining for state employees in 1979, CSEA began a long period of reorganization wherein its members were divided into four distinct classes depending on their employment or retirement status with the State of California. Ultimately, each of the four classes of members formally incorporated their respective organizations within the pre-existing corporate structure of CSEA as affiliates of CSEA. Each of these four affiliates have assumed authority for their respective member representation programs. CSEA now only provides business services of accounting, IT and member benefits for the four affiliated organizations which represent active and retired state and California State University system employees. CSEA governance is currently an eight-member board of directors composed of two representatives from each of the four affiliates. The board of directors elects its officers, as required by California corporate code, from among these eight board members.

Joseph John Jelincic Jr. is an American member of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) Board and is the past president of the California State Employees Association (CSEA), a labor group representing 140,000 active and retired state employees. A rank-and-file investment officer for the CalPERS since 1986, he was elected to the CalPERS Board of Administration in December 2009 as a Member-At-Large representing all CalPERS members.

George Hardy was a Canadian-American labor leader who was president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) from 1971 to 1980. At the time of his death, SEIU had grown to become the fifth-largest affiliate of the AFL-CIO. Hardy was a vice president of the AFL-CIO from 1972 to 1980, and a member of its executive council. He was a former member of the Democratic National Committee and the California Democratic State Central Committee.
The Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers (AWPPW) is a trade union in the western United States. It was established 58 years ago in September 1964, when West Coast rank-and-file members of the International Brotherhood of Pulp, Sulphite, and Paper Mill Workers became dissatisfied with the conduct of wage negotiations by international vice-presidents and those of another international union, the United Papermakers and Paperworkers, with whom a Uniform Labor Agreement had been negotiated. The dissatisfaction was a result of the international Vice Presidents announcing that they were taking over the United Labor Association bargaining session. They established a new union, the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Mill Workers. Litigation followed, a NLRB election was conducted in October 1964, and the Western organization was certified as the Uniform Labor Agreement bargaining agent.
The Graduate Employees' Organization at UIUC (GEO) is a labor union created to defend and extend the bargaining and employment rights of Graduate Employees at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
California Proposition 18 was on the November 4, 1958 California ballot measure as an initiated constitutional amendment. This measure is more commonly referred as the "right to work" law and would have added a new provision, Section 1-A to Article 1 of the State Constitution. The amendment would “prohibit employers and employee organizations from entering into collective bargaining or other agreements which establish membership in a labor organization, or payment of dues or charges of any kind, as a condition of employment or continued employment.” That is, making union membership voluntary, rather than compulsory, for employment.
The Canada Employment and Immigration Union (CEIU) is a Canadian labour union, with over 30,000 members in every Canadian Province and Territory. CEIU is affiliated with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and all CEIU members are automatically members of the PSAC. As affiliated, the PSAC is the bargaining agent for CEIU and other component unions for negotiations with the Treasury Board. CEIU is a member of the Program and Administrative Services (PA) group.
