Clando is a 1996 drama film from Cameroon directed by Jean-Marie Teno. [2] Initially set in Douala, the film explores the experiences of Anatole Sobgui (played by Paulin Fodouop), [1] a man who loses his job as a computer programmer and begins working as an unlicensed cab driver (or 'clando'). He is arrested and tortured by a corrupt regime for printing anti-government leaflets. Left sexually and psychologically impotent by the experience, his life begins to deteriorate rapidly. He migrates to Cologne to find his former employer's son, Chamba. Here, he falls in love with a local, political activist named Irene, who convinces him to return home to Cameroon. [3]
Clando was Teno's first feature-length film. [4] It addresses issues around migration and political violence in Cameroon, and sharply criticizes the authoritarian leadership. [5] [6]

Martin Belinga Eboutou was a Cameroonian political figure and diplomat who was the Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of Cameroon from 2009 to March 2018. He previously held the same post from 1996 to 1997 and was Cameroon's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from March 1998 to December 2007. Belinga died on 8 May 2019 in Switzerland, aged 79.
Adamou Ndam Njoya was a Cameroonian politician, lawyer, author, and professor. He was Minister of National Education from 1977 to 1980, and the President of the Cameroon Democratic Union until his death on 7 March 2020. He was replaced by his wife Patricia Tomaïno Ndam Njoya as Mayor of Foumban, a position he held since 1996. From 1997 to 2007, he was a Deputy in the National Assembly. He unsuccessfully ran as a presidential candidate in the 1992, 2004, 2011 and 2018 elections.
Marie-Thérèse Assiga Ahanda was a Cameroonian novelist, chemist, and paramount chief of the Ewondo and Bene people. Early in life, Ahanda worked for the Chemistry Department of the University of Yaoundé. She later moved to the Republic of the Congo with her husband, Jean Baptiste Assiga Ahanda, and took to writing. When they returned to Cameroon, Ahanda became an elected delegate in the National Assembly of Cameroon, a position she held from 1983 to 1988. Ahanda became the Ewondo paramount chief in 1999. In December 2000, she began renovating her father's palace at Efoulan, Yaoundé, a project that cost an estimated 150,000,000 francs CFA. Ahanda is the daughter of Charles Atangana—paramount chief of the Ewondo and Bene peoples under the German and French colonial regimes—by his second wife, Julienne Ngonoa.
The Mother and the Whore is a 1973 French film directed by Jean Eustache and starring Jean-Pierre Léaud, Bernadette Lafont and Françoise Lebrun. An examination of the relationships between three characters in a love triangle, it was Eustache's first feature film and is considered his masterpiece. Eustache wrote the screenplay drawing inspiration from his own relationships, and shot the film from May to July 1972.
Jean-Paul Ngassa is a Cameroonian filmmaker. He made the films Adventure en France (1962) and La Grande Case Bamiléké (1965) after French Cameroun's independence in 1960. He co-directed the former with Philippe Brunet.
Charles-Marie Vanel was a French actor and director. During his 65-year film career, which began in 1923, he appeared in more than 200 films and worked with many prominent directors, including Alfred Hitchcock, Luis Buñuel, Jacques Feyder, and Henri-Georges Clouzot. He is perhaps best remembered for his role as a desperate truck driver in Clouzot's The Wages of Fear for which he received a Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival in 1953.
The Chamba are a significant ethnic group in the north eastern Nigeria. The Chamba are located between present day Nigeria and Cameroon. The closest Chamba neighbours are the Mumuye, the Jukun and Kutep people. In Cameroon, the successors of Leko and chamba speakers are divided into several states: Bali Nyonga, Bali Kumbat, Bali-Gham, Bali-Gangsin, and Bali-Gashu. They are two ethnic groups in Ghana and Togo also called Chamba, but they are ethnically distinct. The Chamba are identified through their own language, beliefs, culture, and art.

Jean-Marie Teno is a Cameroonian film director and filmmaker, "one of Africa's most prolific filmmakers". His films address censorship, human rights violations, globalization, and the effects of colonialism. Teno has made films in many different forms but favors making documentaries. In an interview when asked about his favor style of film to make he responded, "documentary because when you do fiction, people think it's not true. When it's the documentary, they are embarrassed, embarrassed".

Ernestine Ouandié was a Cameroonian journalist. The daughter of political exile Ernest Ouandié who she never met, Ouandié had a difficult childhood in Ghana. After becoming a journalist she moved to Cameroon to learn more about her father. She was featured in a documentary directed by Jean-Marie Teno, titled Une feuille dans le vent, about her life and her feelings about her father's 1971 execution. The documentary footage was filmed in 2004 but the film was released in 2013 after she committed suicide.
