Claude Arribas (born 13 August 1951) is a French former professional footballer who played as a midfielder and defender. [2]
Arribas was a youth international for France at various levels, including at under-21 level. [3]
Arribas is of Basque Spanish descent; his father José, who was a football player and manager, was born in Bilbao. Claude played under his father when he was manager at Nantes. [4]
After retiring from football, Arribas became a sales adviser in a food company near Angers. [3]

Regarded as one of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time, Makélélé has been credited with redefining the defensive midfield role in English football, especially during the 2004–05 FA Premier League season, where he played a key role in helping Chelsea win the title with 95 points. In homage, the defensive midfield position is sometimes colloquially known as the "Makélélé Role".
