Claybaugh Creek is a stream in the Saint Francois Mountains of Iron County in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1]

The headwaters arise high on the south slope of Taum Sauk Mountain about 2000 feet south of the lookout at an elevation of about 1620 feet [2] at 37°33′52″N90°43′21″W / 37.56444°N 90.72250°W / 37.56444; -90.72250 . [1] The stream flows south and east to its confluence with Minor Creek is at the head of Royal Gorge adjacent to Missouri Route 21 [2] at 37°32′35″N90°40′56″W / 37.54306°N 90.68222°W / 37.54306; -90.68222 Coordinates: 37°32′35″N90°40′56″W / 37.54306°N 90.68222°W / 37.54306; -90.68222 and at an elevation of 1063 feet. [1]

Taum Sauk Mountain in the Saint Francois Mountains is the highest natural point in the U.S. state of Missouri at 1,772 feet . The topography of Taum Sauk is that of an elongated ridge with a NNW-SSE orientation rather than a peak.

Minor Creek is a stream in Iron County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of Big Creek. Routes 72 and 21 pass through the lower stream valley southwest of Ironton. Minor Creek passes through Royal Gorge just before it reaches its confluence with Big Creek.

Royal Gorge is a gap in Iron County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The gap is at a point where Minor Creek cuts through a ridge in Ketcherside Mountain. Routes 72 and 21 pass through the gap southwest of Ironton.

Claybaugh Creek has the name of an early charcoal producer. [3]

Charcoal is a lightweight black carbon residue produced by removing water and other volatile constituents from animal and plant materials. Charcoal is usually produced by slow pyrolysis — the heating of wood or other organic materials in the absence of oxygen. This process is called charcoal burning. The finished charcoal consists largely of carbon.

Vail Mountain lies to the east of Russell Mountain and the road to the summit of Taum Sauk Mountain passes just west of the summit of Vail Mountain. Routes 21 and 72 traverse the south spur of the mountain before heading south through Royal Gorge. The summit is about 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Arcadia and Ironton.

Brown Mountain is a summit in western St. Francois County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The peak has an elevation of 1,650 feet (500 m). The community of Iron Mountain Lake lies just west of the mountain. The mountain is named after Mr. Brown, a businessperson in the local charcoal producing industry.

Oak Mountain is a summit in the southwestern corner of St. Francois County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The summit has an elevation of 1,631 feet (497 m). The peak is on a north-south trending ridge that extends south into Iron County and the city of Pilot Knob lies just southwest of the mountain. The community of Middlebrook is to the northwest and Iron Mountain Lake is to the north. The source area of Knob Creek is on the west flank of the mountain.

Pine Mountain is a summit in St. Francois County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The summit has an elevation of 1,499 feet (457 m). The mountain is about 3.5 miles south of Bismarck along Missouri Route N. The peak rises just south of the confluence of Indian Creek with the St. Francis River.

Stono Mountain is a summit in St. Francois County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The mountain rises to an elevation of 1,644 feet (501 m). Mineral City lies along the headwaters of Doe Run Creek just to the east on Missouri Route W and Little Stono Mountain lies to the north.

Wolf Creek is a stream in eastern St. Francois County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the St. Francis River.

Imboden Fork or Imboden Creek is a stream in Iron and Reynolds counties of southeast Missouri. It is a tributary of the East Fork Black River.
