Clayton Colvin (born 1976) is an American abstract painter, multimedia artist, collagist, curator of contemporary art, and writer who lives and works in Birmingham, Alabama.
Colvin received a Bachelor's Degree in Art History from New York University in 1999 and a Master's Degree in Art Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2003. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2005. [1]
Colvin interned for Agnes, a photography art gallery in Birmingham, Alabama, for several summers while attending university. As an undergraduate, he interned for the Jack Tilton Gallery in New York City, New York. [2]
Colvin is represented by Maus Contemporary in Birmingham, Alabama.
His 2013 exhibit at the Maus Contemporary gallery (then known as Beta Pictoris gallery) was reviewed in Art in America by Cinque Hicks. [3]
Colvin exhibited at the launch of F18 gallery in New York City, [4] and the Mobile Museum of Art [5] in 2014.
He was included in "Politics, Politics: Nice Artists Explore the Political Landscape," curated by Anne Arrasmith and Peter Prinz of Space One Eleven in Birmingham. Colvin's work was part of "Contour: The Definitive Line," curated by Jon Coffelt. [6] His work is also included in the permanent collection of the Birmingham Museum of Art, [7] [8] the Mobile Museum of Art, and the High Museum of Art.
Colvin authored "Clayton Colvin: Space Mountain", published April 3 2012 by Maus Contemporary. The book was published to accompany his exhibition "Space Mountain" at the Maus Contemporary gallery. It contained essays by Brian Bishop, Brian Edmonds, and a poem by Ed Skoog [9] .
