Stapleton-Simmonds was first elected in March 2020 to the Nevis Island Assembly in a by-election for the St Thomas’ Parish/5th constituency as a member of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), following the retirement of the incumbent NRP representative Joseph Parry. [1] [2] Following this result, she became the first woman elected as a parliamentary representative of the NRP. [3]

She was re-elected at the 2022 election, [4] however, was later removed from the NRP in 2023 over disagreements with party leader and fellow parliamentary representative Janice Daniel-Hodge about who should become Leader of the Opposition.
