Clou was a Czech rock band from Prague formed in 2001, who sang in English. They released their debut EP, First, in 2004, and a studio album titled Postcards in 2005. They went on to release three more albums before breaking up in 2014. [1]
Clou, initially composed of Lukáš Vyhnal (vocals), Radek Tomášek Jr. (drums), Petr Vaško (guitar), Hubert Topinka (guitar), and Brian Yamato (bass), formed in 2001 and began playing hardcore punk, emo, and mainstream punk rock. They played at various club concerts, skateboarding events, and have appeared at the Rock for People festival several times since 2004. [2]
In 2004, they released the three-track EP First. At the turn of 2004–05, Clou went into the studio to record their debut full-length album, Postcards.
On 21 March 2005, Clou released the album Postcards, which proved to be a great success, especially on the Czech music scene. It included elements of melodic hardcore, punk rock, and pop punk. Thanks to good production, the single "Island Sun" went not only to the top of the Czech charts, but was also played on MTV, where it reached the Top 10 music videos. [3] The album included contributions from Slovak singer Dara Rolins and Kryštof Michal, then-vocalist of Support Lesbiens. Postcards won two Anděl Awards in 2006. [4] Clou's popularity grew rapidly, and they became one of the most sought-after Czech bands, as evidenced by the countless club concerts and open-air festivals they played.
A critical moment in the band's history came in the summer of 2006, when in the middle of a festival tour, bassist Brian B. decided to leave the band. Clou then played several acoustic performances and considered whether to continue or quit. They eventually added bassist Štěpán Farkaš (Měhrot, Jaksi taksi) to their lineup.
At the end of the summer of 2006, Clou was given the opportunity to compose and record several songs for the film Prachy dělaj člověka . [5] Towards the end of the year, the band reentered the studio to record their second album. [6]
Clou's sophomore, self-titled album, was released in 2007. American musician Austin Lucas, who lives in the Czech Republic, helped write the album's lyrics. The band conducted a tour titled Ghosts of November to promote the record, on which they were joined by the bands Selfish, The Prostitutes, and 5 April. [7]
In July 2008, Clou added guitarist Pavel (Rocky) Bureš of 5 April to their roster, and began recording their next album. For Tonight was released in 2008. [8]
In 2012, Clou released their final album, Old Dogs New Tricks, and broke up two years later.

Support Lesbiens is a Czech musical group from Prague. It was founded in 1992. Their single "Cliché" was the first single by a Czech English-singing group to reach number one in an official radio chart IFPI. The band is considered to be a part of the New Age genre, though it carries many Rock features as well. After the release of a new single "Changes" with the new band members, the band is currently working on new album that should be ready in autumn 2013.
Daniel Landa is a Czech musician, actor, car racer, and amateur muay thai fighter. Born in Prague, Landa graduated with honours from Prague Conservatory, having studied music and drama. He began his musical career in 1988 when he, along with David Matásek, founded the oi! band Orlík, with whom he released two albums. Orlík has been criticized for its racial overtones, targeting specifically the Gypsy minority in the Czech Republic. In 1993, he began recording as a solo artist, and has since released numerous albums. He has also composed music for films and written several musicals. His material often deals with patriotic and political themes.
FPB, short for Fourth Price Band, is a Czech punk rock band formed in 1980 in Teplice by bassist, singer, and poet Miroslav Wanek and his friend Petr Růžička, who acted as the band's manager. The two were joined by drummer Milan Nový and later, guitarist Romek Hanzlík. The group moved through several lineups before splitting up in 1987. The fact of playing punk rock in the early 1980s in a Communist nation drew much attention to the band, but the group was also notable for integrating musical complexity and poetry into a traditional punk style. They often used different monikers to confuse the police, including FPB, Fourth Price Band, Čtvrtá cenová skupina, and Čtverecjeď. FPB briefly reformed in 1990 and again in 2008. They are sporadically active to this day.
Už jsme doma are a Czech progressive rock band from Prague who originally formed in Teplice in 1985. The Prague Post has termed them one of "the two great bastions of the Czech alternative scene".
Kabát is a Czech hard rock band from Teplice formed in 1983. The members of the group are Josef Vojtek, Milan Špalek, Tomáš Krulich (guitar), Ota Váňa (guitar), and Radek Hurčík (drums). Kabát has enjoyed major popularity in their home country since 1989, and they are the holders of multiple Anděl Awards. The band represented the Czech Republic as the country's first entry in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 in Helsinki, Finland. Between 2003 and 2017, they won the Český slavík award twelve times. In 2014, they were inducted into the Beatová síň slávy, the Czech equivalent of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are considered one of the most successful rock acts in Czech history.
Tři sestry is a Czech punk band formed in 1985 in Prague. Some of their later material has fallen into a more general rock genre, and they have also dabbled in hardcore punk. The band experienced the peak of their popularity in the 1990s and have played at the Masters of Rock music festival in 2005 and 2011. Their main songwriter and lead singer is Lou Fanánek Hagen. The other current members of the band are Veronika Borovková, Tomáš Doležal (bass), Ronald Seitl (guitar), Zdeněk Petr (guitar), Rostislav Cerman (guitar), Petr Lukeš (drums), and Martin Roušar. Tři sestry have released more than twenty studio albums and a number of live recordings and compilations throughout their career.
Čechomor is a Czech band from Svitavy that performs traditional songs in rock arrangements. They have toured throughout Europe, North America, Russia, China, Mongolia, and Australia and were reportedly a favourite band of Czech playwright and former president Václav Havel. In 2001, they won three Anděl Awards.
Robert Nebřenský is a Czech actor, musician, comedian, songwriter, and composer.
Blue Effect was a Czech rock band, also operating under the names M. Efekt, Modrý efekt, or the Special Blue Effect, since their formation in 1968. The band's main and only permanent member, from its founding until his death in 2016, was guitarist Radim Hladík, formerly of The Matadors. Blue Effect changed their musical style several times, ranging from rhythm and blues, jazz fusion, to art rock.
Charlie Straight were a Czech indie rock band formed in Třinec in 2006. They combined indie rock with melodic and often electronic musical elements, and all their lyrics were sung in English. They released two studio albums and won a number of awards, before breaking up in 2013. Lead singer Albert Černý went on to form the indie pop group Lake Malawi, who represented the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Etc... is a Czech rock band from Prague, formed in 1974 by singer and guitarist Vladimír Mišík. Various musicians have rotated through the group's ranks, including violist Jan Hrubý, bassist Jiří Veselý, guitarist Petr "Kulich" Pokorný, drummer Ivan Kadaňka, bassist/cellist Jaroslav Olin Nejezchleba, as well as bassists Vladimír Padrůněk and Vladimír Guma Kulhánek.
Lake Malawi is a Czech indie pop band from Třinec, formed in 2013. It currently consists of lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Albert Černý, and bassist and keyboardist Jeroným Šubrt. The band was formed by Černý following the breakup of his former group, Charlie Straight. Their debut EP, We Are Making Love Again, was released in 2015 and followed by the album Surrounded by Light in 2017. They represented the Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "Friend of a Friend", finishing in eleventh place. In 2022, they released their second album, The Great Video Game Crush. The band's lyrics are in English.
Petra Pudová is a Czech singer and actress. She has performed in films, television, and musicals. As a singer, she works with a band, though she spent 2016 developing her solo singing career. In April 2017 she released a single "One Last Time", and in June 2017 she released her first solo album Say it Out Loud.
Wanastowi Vjecy is a Czech rock band formed in 1988 in Prague. The group consists of Robert Kodym on vocals and guitar, Štěpán Smetáček on drums, Tomáš Vartecký on guitar, and Radek Havlíček on bass. They began as a punk band but settled into a mainstream rock sound by the early 1990s. Kodym and former member P.B.CH. were also in the band Lucie, led by David Koller, which they had formed together in 1985. The duo formed the core of Wanastowi Vjecy until 2010, when P.B.CH. left.
Citron is a Czech hard rock/heavy metal band founded in Ostrava in 1976. The band's history is divided into two distinct eras: between 1976 and 1981, when their name was spelled with a long "ó", Citrón, and they played mainly blues rock. During this time, the band leader was bassist Petr Michalík. The second era, from 1982 until the present, signalled a change in musical style towards hard rock and heavy metal, with drummer Radim Pařízek as band leader and the group's name slightly altered to Citron. As of 2021, Citron has released twelve studio albums, two EPs, and three official compilation albums.
Mňága a Žďorp is a Czech rock band from Valašské Meziříčí. A precursor of the group was formed in 1983 under the name Slepé střevo. The band's lineup has changed frequently over the years and currently consists of Petr Fiala on guitar, Petr Nekuža on bass, Jaromír Mikel on guitar, Jiří Tibitanzl on saxophone, keyboards, and percussion, and Marcel Gabriel on drums. The band became known for their 1991 hit "Hodinový hotel", from their debut album, Made in Valmez. Their latest record, released in 2019, is titled Třecí plochy.
Yo Yo Band is a Czech band from Prague formed in 1975 by Richard Tesařík, Vladimír Tesařík, Ondřej Hejma, and Julius Novotný Kuzma. The group achieved the peak of its success in the 1990s, with such hits as "Karviná", "Jedem do Afriky", "Rybitví", and "Kladno".

J.A.R. is a Czech funk/rock/hip hop band formed in 1989 in Prague. It consists of musicians who are part of other bands and projects, including solo careers, who meet up periodically to record and perform together. They play an annual anniversary show at Prague's Lucerna Music Bar. As of 2024, they have released 11 studio albums, one compilation, one remix album, and one video album.
