Pearl Bryan was a 22-year-old pregnant American woman from Greencastle, Indiana who was found decapitated in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, in 1896. Her head was severed below the fifth vertebra. Due to the murder's gruesome nature, it achieved significant notoriety at the time. More recently, there have been claims that her ghost haunts Bobby Mackey's Music World located in Wilder, Kentucky.

Greencastle Township is one of thirteen townships in Putnam County, Indiana. As of the 2020 census, its population was 12,554 and it contained 5,002 housing units. This township contains the county seat of Greencastle and is home to DePauw University, a liberal arts college of 2,300 students.

The Putnam County Jail is located in Greencastle, Indiana. It houses approximately 145 adult men and women. The jail houses three categories of inmates: county inmates awaiting trial, county inmates serving sentences of less than one year, and inmates from the Indiana Department of Correction who have been placed in the jail to relieve overcrowding in state prisons.

The first formed as an eight-team league that formed as a basketball league in 1944 as the West Central Conference. With consolidation forcing many membership changes in the 1970s, the conference folded at four members in 1983.
