Biography

Van der Lee was born on 6 January 1893 in Rotterdam. She attended the Rijksnormaalschool voor Teekenonderwijzers  [ nl ] (National Normal School for Drawing Teachers). [1] In 1911 she married the painter André Idserda  [ nl ] with whom she had two children. [2] Her work was included in the 1939 exhibition and sale Onze Kunst van Heden (Our Art of Today) at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. [3] She was a member of the Vereniging van Beeldende Kunstenaars (Association of Visual Artists) in Hilversum. [1] Van der Lee died on 4 September 1972 in Hilversum. [4]

The contest was held at the AVRO Studios on Wednesday 12 March 1958, and was hosted by Hannie Lips. It was the first Eurovision Song Contest held in a Benelux country.

The Netherlands has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 60 times since making its debut as one of the seven countries at the first contest in 1956. The country has missed only four contests, twice because the dates coincided with Remembrance of the Dead and twice because of being relegated due to poor results the previous year. The Netherlands hosted the contest in Hilversum (1958), Amsterdam (1970), twice in The Hague, and would've hosted the contest in Rotterdam in 2020, but the edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rotterdam will remain as the host city of the 2021 contest.
