Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was a Russian Romantic painter who is considered one of the greatest masters of marine art. Baptized as Hovhannes Aivazian, he was born into an Armenian family in the Black Sea port of Feodosia in Crimea and was mostly based there.
Gyumri is an urban municipal community and the second-largest city in Armenia, serving as the administrative center of Shirak Province in the northwestern part of the country. Shirak is known for its professional football team which is one of the oldest football clubs in Armenia, having been created in 1958. Shirak is one of the more successful clubs in Armenia, having won a total of 11 domestic titles including four Armenian Premier League titles, two Armenian Cup, and five Armenian Super Cup.

Ashot Melkonian was an Armenian artist associated with Neorealistic artistic style and Honorary Artist of Armenia. He mainly devoted himself to landscape and portraits painting, as well as murals. He is one of the founders of Neorealism in Armenian art. Art critic Shahen Khachatrian referred to Melkonian as "an artist of the generation of the 1960s that provided a new impetus to the development of Armenian art. Reality is a characteristic feature of Ashot's art". Honorary artist of Armenia Hakob Hakobian referring to Melkonian wrote "a brilliant composer of scenes, an author of exquisite portraits and landscapes, a master of gentlest and subtlest painting ... Melkonian is the pride of our painting school." According to art critic L.S. Zinger (Moscow), Melkonian's art is "a mix of humanistic tradition and his Armenian outlook."

Karen Smbatyan was born on April 21, 1932, in Gyumri, Shirak, Armenia, and passed on December 27, 2008, in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, and lived most of his life as an Armenian painter.
The Gyumri massacre was a mass murder of seven members of the Armenian Avetisyan family in Gyumri, Armenia, on January 12, 2015. The suspect, Valery Permyakov, a Russian serviceman from the Russian 102nd Military Base, was apprehended by the Armenia-based Russian Border Guards near the border with Turkey and brought into custody at the Gyumri base for further investigation under the Russian jurisdiction. Spontaneous demonstrations in Gyumri and Yerevan ensued, demanding that Permyakov be tried and serve his sentence in Armenia. Perceived inadequate government response further triggered public outrage in Armenia in early 2015 following the incident. In August 2016, Permyakov was sentenced to life on charges of murder by an Armenian court; the court's ruling was upheld in December 2016 by the Appeals Court in Yerevan.
Andranik Avetisyan is an Armenian artist. He noticed a cobweb in the corner of the window in his studio. Then he had the idea to create a picture of a cobweb, and began to study the life of spiders, and the structure of their cobwebs. Afterwards, he began to breed spiders in order to use their cobwebs to create pictures. Avetisyan's works are made of real cobweb He is the first artist who uses cobwebs for pictures. Andranik Avetisyan was awarded the "New Talent and Creative Thought" prize at the Cannes International Exhibition of Modern Art, which was held in 2017.

The 2020−2021 Armenian protests were a series of protests that began following the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire agreement on 10 November 2020. After Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he signed an agreement to cede Armenian-occupied territories in Azerbaijan and put an end to six weeks of hostilities over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, thousands of people took to the streets, and hundreds stormed the Parliament building in the capital Yerevan. Protests continued throughout November, with demonstrations in Yerevan and other cities demanding the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan.
