Colin Stewart (born November 1, 1974) is a record producer and audio engineer from Victoria, British Columbia, who has been active recording bands since 1996. [1] His professionalism and his passion for recording made others to call him as one of "Vancouver's top indie-rock engineers". [2]
He owns and operates a studio in Victoria, British Columbia called The Hive Creative Labs, which has established itself as a musical institution of Canada's west coast independent music scene, having hosted and recorded "Black Mountain, Destroyer, Ladyhawk, Frog Eyes, Hot Hot Heat and P:ano, along with virtually every other significant West coast indie act". [3] Colin has also recorded albums by Kathryn Calder, Sleepy Sun band, Yukon Blonde, The Cave Singers, Veda Hille, No Kids, Dan Mangan, Pretty Girls Make Graves and many others. [2]
He is also a founding member of the band Gigi. On 30 September 2013 the recording studio Hive Creative Labs which was a home for a lot of Vancouver acts closed its doors because of Producer Colin Stewart's relocation to Victoria. [4]
He is married to singer-songwriter Kathryn Calder. [5]

Mint Records is a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-based independent record label founded in 1991, by friends and campus radio enthusiasts Randy Iwata and Bill Baker. Mint has put out over 150 releases, several of which have won Juno Awards.
P:ano was a Canadian indie pop band from Vancouver, British Columbia. Their early music was typically labelled as chamber pop, but with their third album Brigadoon they began to evolve a much more diverse style that drew on influences from throughout pop music history.

Calder started with The New Pornographers by filling in for Neko Case for live performances and was made a permanent member in 2006.

The Cave Singers is an American band from Seattle, Washington. Composed of former members of Pretty Girls Make Graves after its disbandment in 2007, former PGMG-member Derek Fudesco teamed up with Pete Quirk and Marty Lund and began playing in the Seattle area. Soon after the band's conception, The Cave Singers signed with Matador Records on June 11, 2007. The band spent time recording in Vancouver with music engineer Colin Stewart, who quickly produced the band's first full-length LP. The band released the limited edition single 7" "Seeds Of Night" including b side "After The First Baptism" on August 2, 2007. Invitation Songs, the first LP, was released on September 25, 2007 to critical acclaim. The second single, "Dancing On Our Graves", was released on February 25, 2008.
Ache Records is an independent record label based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was started by the musician Andy Dixon around 1999. Ache releases music for both Canadian and foreign acts. The first release on Ache Records was Hot Hot Heat's release, Hot Hot Heat (1999), a four-song EP. Other notable artists to work with Ache include Death from Above 1979, Four Tet, Hrvatski, Konono N°1, and Matmos.
Said the Whale is a Canadian indie rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia. The band was founded in 2007 by the group's primary songwriters, guitarists and lead vocalists, Ben Worcester and Tyler Bancroft. Their current lineup consists of Worcester, Bancroft, keyboardist and vocalist Jaycelyn Brown, bassist Lincoln Hotche and drummer Spencer Schoening.
Way to Go, Einstein was a Canadian five-piece indie rock music group formed in 2006 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Their second LP, Pseudonym, was released on March 17, 2009 by Submerged Records. It was recorded over a period of eight months at the band's studios in New Westminster, Burnaby, and at The Hive Creative Labs with Colin Stewart. Pseudonym was featured on the college radio top fifty charts in many cities across Canada. The band, originally composed of members Andrew (Vocals) and Kevin (Guitar), completed its line-up in early 2007. Each member comes from his own separate musical background, making for an eclectic mix of ambient and at times heavy guitars, melodic vocals and piano, synthesizers, hypnotic bass lines, and creative rhythms. Way to Go, Einstein's first album Hide and Seek Champion was released in 2007 by Broken Oak Records. The first single, "Walk Through Fire", created some initial buzz for the band in the Vancouver area. Way to Go, Einstein disbanded peacefully in 2010 after several months of stagnation. Members Geoffrey and Kevin later formed synth-pop duo Fathoms in 2012. Benson Musaev went on to a career as a sculptor for make up and special effects in film and television.

Are You My Mother? is a 2010 album released by Canadian musician Kathryn Calder. It is Calder's debut solo album. She had previously released records as a member of Immaculate Machine and The New Pornographers.
Gigi is a Canadian music recording project based in Vancouver, formed in 2005 by the songwriter Nick Krgovich and record producer Colin Stewart after Stewart acquired two vintage plate reverb units and asked Krgovich to write songs — Phil Spector-inspired 1950s and 1960s-style pop music — to make use of them. With 40 musicians from indie rock bands collaborating, the group released an album, Maintenant, on the Tomlab label in 2010, to mostly positive reviews.
Northcote, moniker of musician Matthew Daniel Goud, is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His voice is described as similar to Bruce Springsteen, Joe Cocker, Peter Gabriel, as well as a more refined projection of his former hardcore roots. Northcote has shared the stage with Frank Turner, The Gaslight Anthem, Tim Barry, Wintersleep, Aidan Knight, Hannah Georgas, John K Samson, Corb Lund, The Wooden Sky, Library Voices, Lindi Ortega and others.
