The College Heights Herald is the student newspaper of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, United States. It is free and distributed throughout the campus and city. [1] The school provides professional staff support and facilities for the newspaper but does not exercise editorial control. Called the Herald or the WKU Herald for short, the publication is supported through the sale of advertising and is entirely student-run.
During the fall and spring semesters, the Herald print edition is published as a news magazine three times a semester. With a circulation of about 3,000, it serves a campus of about 16,000 with exclusive enterprise not previously published online. The Herald is distributed to more than 100 locations on campus and in Bowling Green. [2] WKUHerald.com, the Herald's digital presence, is updated multiple times daily throughout the year.
The Herald's primary means of distributing content is its email newsletter, published every weekday during the academic semesters and weekly during the winter and summer breaks. Launched on March 11, 2020, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the newsletter now goes to more than 33,000 subscribers. It is published through the Constant Contact platform. The growth of the newsletter prompted student leaders to move their print edition from a weekly newspaper to the current news magazine format focused on exclusive enterprise.
The Herald's website, WKUHerald.com, features content in a digital format, as well as multimedia such as videos, photo galleries, and audio slideshows. [3] The website serves as a way to release breaking news and allow readers to interact through online comments. WKUHerald is published on the SNO platform. WKUHerald.com uses a flexible format that adapts to the user's device, whether it's a desktop, tablet or mobile phone.
Over the years, the Herald has garnered numerous national, regional and state honors. The newspaper has been the recipient of 21 ACP Pacemaker awards, the highest award given to collegiate newspapers, most recently earning two Pacemakers in 2022 (news magazine and online). The Herald also was a finalist for the ACP Multiplatform Pacemaker. The College Heights Herald is a member of the ACP Hall of Fame and is No. 6 on the list of the most successful student media outlets in the century-long history of the ACP Pacemaker Awards.
The Herald also has won multiple Gold Crown Awards and Silver Crown Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA).
Other awards include being named the best non-daily student newspaper in the country by the Society of Professional Journalists and 12 General Excellence Awards from the Kentucky Press Association, the most recent in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Western Kentucky University is a public university in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was founded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1906, though its roots reach back a quarter-century earlier. It operates regional campuses in Glasgow, Elizabethtown-Fort Knox, and Owensboro. The Tulane Hullabaloo is the weekly student-run newspaper of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. As of 2023 Gabi Liebeler serves as 119th Editor-in-Chief. The Tulane Hullabaloo is also self-funded by selling advertisements to business owners and other organizations on the self-serve advertising platform. The Tulane Hullabaloo publishes its print edition once a month. It has received multiple Pacemaker Awards, the highest award in college journalism.

The Daily Trojan, or "DT," is the student newspaper of the University of Southern California. The newspaper is a forum for student expression and is written, edited, and managed by university students. The paper is intended to inform USC students, faculty, and staff on the latest news and provide opinion and entertainment. Student writers, editors, photographers and artists can develop their talents and air their opinions while providing a service to the campus community through the Daily Trojan. Readers can interact with the Daily Trojan by commenting on social media posts or writing a letter to the editor.
The Daily Tar Heel (DTH) is the independent student newspaper of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was founded on February 23, 1893, and became a daily newspaper in 1929. The paper places a focus on university news and sports, but it also includes heavy coverage of Orange County and North Carolina. In 2016, the paper moved from five days a week in print to four, cutting the Tuesday edition. In 2017, the paper began to print on only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In 2021, the paper began to print only on Wednesdays. All editorial content is overseen by student editors and a volunteer student staff of about 230 people. It's located at 109 E. Franklin St. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and it is the largest news organization in Orange County.
The Old Gold & Black is the student-run newspaper of Wake Forest University, named after the school's colors. The newspaper was founded in 1916 and is published in print every other Thursday, with the exception of school holidays and exam weeks. The Old Gold & Black's office is located on the fifth floor of the Benson University Center on Wake Forest's main campus.
The Shorthorn is the campus newspaper for the University of Texas at Arlington. It is published online daily with a print digest on Wednesday during the fall and spring semesters. During the summer, all content is published online since no print edition is produced.

The Temple News (TTN) is the editorially independent weekly newspaper of Temple University. It prints 6,000 copies to be distributed primarily on Temple's Main Campus every Tuesday. A staff of 25, supported by more than 150 writers, is responsible for designing, reporting and editing the 20-page paper. Increasingly, TTN is supplementing its weekly print product with breaking news and online-only content on its web site. In September 2007, TTN launched Broad & Cecil, its own blog community.
The Spectrum is a student newspaper published in Buffalo, New York. It is a digital newspaper published weekly at the University at Buffalo. The Spectrum is financially independent and supports itself with online advertising. Any undergraduate at the school is eligible to register for the newspaper and its corresponding English courses, regardless of intended major.

I~Comm Student Media is an organization involving students from all fields of study at Brigham Young University-Idaho. This organization covers major media and communication strategies, such as advertising, public relations, and news review. I~Comm also produces the university newspaper and operates its own in-house design agency, multimedia organization, copy editing team and sales/marketing group.
The CU Independent is the student-run news publication for the University of Colorado Boulder. It has been digital-only since 2006, when it became one of the first major college newspapers to drop its print edition.
