Colleton County is in the Lowcountry region of the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,604. Its county seat is Walterboro. The county is named after Sir John Colleton, 1st Baronet, one of the eight Lords Proprietor of the Province of Carolina. After two previous incarnations, the current Colleton County was created in 1800.

Norman Lamont Hand was an American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted in the fifth round of the 1995 NFL Draft. He last played with the New York Giants in 2004. He also played with the Seattle Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints, the San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins. With the Saints, Hand was part of a defensive line nicknamed "The Heavy Lunch Bunch", along with fellow 325-pounders Martin Chase and Grady Jackson. Hand was noted for his "Big Wiggle" celebration dance, and in 2000 he was part of the team that won the Saints' first playoff game.

Alexis I. duPont High School (AI) is a public high school located in Greenville, Delaware with a Wilmington postal address. Walterboro Library Society Building is a historic library building located at Walterboro, Colleton County, South Carolina. It was built in 1820, and is a small, white, Federal style frame building with a side-gabled roof. The front façade features a Palladian-style door surround capped by a fanlight. The building is occupied by the Colleton County Historical Society. When Walterboro was incorporated in 1826, the town boundaries were established as "3/4 of a mile in every direction from the Walterboro Library."
