Colleton County High School (formed from the merging of Walterboro High School and Ruffin High School) is a public high school in Walterboro, South Carolina. It is the only public high school in Colleton County and is one of the largest high schools by enrollment in the state, despite being located in a mostly rural county. It is a part of the Colleton County School District.

Colleton County High School is accredited with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. [3]

Athletics

The Colleton County High School Cougars compete in the Class AAAA Region 7 division of the South Carolina High School League.

Student activities

CCHS students participate in wrestling, football, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, track, soccer, and tennis.

Band of Blue

The "Band of Blue" has won the South Carolina State Marching Band Championships in 1982, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, and 1997. The band has performed for one presidential inaugural and four gubernatorial inaugurals. In 1994, the Band of Blue marched in the 105th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. In 2000, the Band of Blue marched in the 74th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Band of Blue was also featured in the 2008 and 2019 National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, DC. Most recently, the Band of Blue marched in the 2010 Endymion Parade in New Orleans, Louisiana, behind Tom Benson, the parade marshal and owner of the New Orleans Saints and in front of the NFL team themselves.

CCHS Chorus

In March 2010, the CCHS Singers chorus performed a Mozart piece at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Norman Lamont Hand was an American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted in the fifth round of the 1995 NFL Draft. He last played with the New York Giants in 2004. He also played with the Seattle Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints, the San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins. With the Saints, Hand was part of a defensive line nicknamed "The Heavy Lunch Bunch", along with fellow 325-pounders Martin Chase and Grady Jackson. Hand was noted for his "Big Wiggle" celebration dance, and in 2000 he was part of the team that won the Saints' first playoff game.

Darwin Jamar Walker is a former American football defensive tackle. He was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played college football at Tennessee.

Alexis I. duPont High School (AI) is a public high school located in Greenville, Delaware with a Wilmington postal address. It is one of the three public high schools offering grades 9–12 in the Red Clay Consolidated School District. 807 students were enrolled during the 2019–2020 school year. Walterboro Library Society Building is a historic library building located at Walterboro, Colleton County, South Carolina. It was built in 1820, and is a small, white, Federal style frame building with a side-gabled roof. The front façade features a Palladian-style door surround capped by a fanlight. The building is occupied by the Colleton County Historical Society. When Walterboro was incorporated in 1826, the town boundaries were established as "3/4 of a mile in every direction from the Walterboro Library."

Kamiyah Teresiah Tasha Mobley was abducted from a Florida hospital on July 10, 1998, when she was only eight hours old. In January 2017, she was found alive in Walterboro, South Carolina. DNA testing proved that she was not the daughter of Gloria Williams, her abductor. She had been raised under the name Alexis Kelli Manigo.
