Colton Vasek is an American college football defensive end for the Texas Longhorns.

Early life and high school

Vasek grew up in Austin, Texas and attended Westlake High School. [1] He had 71 tackles and 14 sacks as a senior. [2] Vasek was rated a four-star recruit and initially committed to play college football at Oklahoma over offers from Oregon, Texas, and Texas Tech. [3] He later flipped his commitment to Texas. [4]

College career

Vasek suffered a back injury prior to the start of his freshman season with the Texas Longhorns and redshirted the year. [5]

Personal life

Vasek's father, Brian, played college football at Texas from 1991 to 1995. [6] His younger brother, Connor, currently plays defensive end at Westlake and is committed to play college football at Air Force. [7]

He signed with Oregon State University in 2005, but he failed to meet the school's academic requirements and did not play for the Beavers. In 2006, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a free agent, but he was released in early September 2006 as part of the final cut before the start of the regular season. He was a member of the 2007 Frankfurt Galaxy team that lost the NFL Europa championship to the Hamburg Sea Devils in World Bowl XV. He signed with the West Texas Roughnecks of the Indoor Football League in 2010.

The team played its home games at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, where the team is based. The Longhorns were led by second-year head coach Charlie Strong.
