Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist) is a political party in Nepal. The party is registered with the Election Commission of Nepal ahead of the 2008 Constituent Assembly election. [2]

Ahead of the 2008 Constituent Assembly election, the party presented a closed proportional representation list with 38 candidates, headed by Durga Prasad Gyawali. [3] The party presented 4 candidates for the First Past the Post seats. [4]

It was formed by Chandra Prakash Mainali when the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) reunified with Communist Party of Nepal. Mainali had refused to go along with the merger and led a faction of the former Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) to reorganize the party.

2008 Nepalese Constituent Assembly election

A general election for the first Nepalese Constituent Assembly was held in Nepal on 10 April 2008, after having been postponed from earlier dates of 7 June 2007 and 22 November 2007. The Nepalese Constituent Assembly was set to draft a new constitution and therefore decide, amongst other things, on the issue of federalism. The number of eligible voters was around 17.5 million. The Constituent Assembly was originally set to have a term of two years.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal

Rastriya Prajatantra Party–Nepal was a Hindu right-wing, cultural conservative and royalist political party in Nepal that existed from 2006 to 2016. The party was formed as a splinter of Rastriya Prajatantra Party in 2006 and was later reunified in 2016.

Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekta Party Nepal is a political party in Nepal. The party was registered with the Election Commission of Nepal ahead of the 2008 Constituent Assembly election. Before registering as a party, the organization's name was Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekta Samaj, which was formed in the beginning of 2007 after many Madhesi armed outfits started repeatedly attack and kill Pahades in the Terai region. The party was formed in 2007, seeking to defend the interests of Pahades living in Madhes. The party has filed its candidate list for the proportional system election.

Rabindra Prasad Adhikari Nepali politician

Rabindra Prasad Adhikari was a Nepali politician and three time parliamentarian, belonging to the Nepal Communist Party. He was Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation from 16 March 2018 until his death in a helicopter crash. He was the Kaski District secretary of the party. In the 2008 Constituent Assembly election, Adhikari was elected from the Kaski-3 constituency, with 13,386 votes. In the 2013 Constituent Assembly election, he was re-elected from the Kaski-3 constituency, with 15,456 votes. in 2017, CPN-UML candidate Rabindra Adhikari won parliamentary elections from Kaski Constituency No 2. Representing the left alliance, Adhikari secured 27,207 votes to defeat Nepali Congress candidate Dev Raj Chalise, who got 18,661 votes. After his demise, His wife Bidya Bhattarai won Kaski Constituency-2 with a wide margin of 8,403 votes in the by-election. Bhattarai secured 24,394 votes while her nearest contender Khem Raj Poudel from main opposition Nepali Congress got 15,991. Likewise, Socialist Party's Dharma Raj Gurung got 1,922 votes. He authored the books Constituent Assembly, Democracy and Re-structuring.

2008 Nepalese presidential election

Indirect presidential elections were held in Nepal in July 2008. The first round of voting was held on 19 July, with a run-off on 21 July. The Nepalese Constituent Assembly (CA) elected in April 2008 elected a new president and vice-president after the Fifth Amendment to the Interim Constitution was passed on 14 July. This would be the first President to be elected after Nepal became a republic a few months earlier.

Agni Sapkota

Agni Prasad Sapkota is a Nepalese politician who is the current speaker of the House of Representatives. He was elected on January 26, 2020. Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal lawmaker Mahantha Thakur, who presided over the HoR meeting as senior most member of the House of Representatives, announced that Sapkota was elected unopposed as he was the only candidate for the post of speaker. He also served as Minister of Forests and Soil Conservation in government lead by KP Oli and Minister of Information and Communications in the government lead by Jhala Nath Khanal.

Communist Party of Nepal (2013)

The Communist Party of Nepal is a political party in Nepal, founded in April 2013. The party was formed through the merger of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified), Communist Party of Nepal Marxist−Leninist (Samajbadi), Communist Party of Nepal, Marxist Communist Party of Nepal, Bidrohi ML and the Independent Thought Group. Rishi Kattel is the chairman of the party. Jagat Bahadur Bogati and Lok Narayan Subedi serve as co-chairs of the party, whilst Haridev Gyawali, Ram Bahadur Bhandari and Tanka Rai serve as vice-chairs.

Sita Subedi is a Nepalese politician. She was the president of the Nepal Progressive Women's Federation. She also served as a Central Committee member of the Communist Party of Nepal. She was nominated as a FPTP candidate for the Communist Party of Nepal in the 2008 Constituent Assembly election. Subedi contested the Kathmandu-9 constituency, but only mustered 55 votes (0.1%).

2017 Nepalese general election

General elections were held in Nepal in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017 to elect the 275 members of the fifth House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The election was held alongside the first provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies. A political deadlock between the governing Nepali Congress and the winning left-wing coalition over the system used to elect the upper house led to delay in forming the new government. Following the announcement of final result by the Election Commission, K.P. Oli of Communist Party of Nepal was sworn in as Prime Minister on 15 February 2018 by the President according to Article 76 (2) of the constitution. He passed a Motion of Confidence on 11 March 2018 with 208 votes.
