Computer Jagat is an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based Bengali-language magazine published monthly [1] [2] [3] in Bangladesh since 1991. [4] [5] [6] This is the first ICT magazine in Bangladesh founded by Professor Abdul Kader. [7] [8] The magazine holds an annual e-commerce fair, in 2015, it held the 7th e-commerce fair in Chittagong. [9]

History

Computer Jagat started journey with the slogan, Computers in every hand of the public to initiate its information and communication technology movement in Bangladesh in the 90s. Their mission was to create awareness of the positive effects of technologies in the public and help them get familiar with computers. They were the first to demonstrate the facilities of using Bangla language in computers with a cover article in 1992. They arranged the first programming contest in the country in September, 1992 the first computer and multimedia fair in Bangladesh on 28 December 1992. They initiated ‘The best ICT personality of the year’ and ‘The best product of the year’ award giving ceremony for the first time in Bangladesh to encourage the tech society in January, 1993. On 25 January 1996 they organized ‘Internet Week’ for the first time in Bangladesh. The magazine published cover articles in December, 2000 and October, 2005 on E-Governance that accelerated the government initiatives to implement E-Governance.

International Conference on Computer and Information Technology or ICCIT is a series of computer science and information technology based conferences that is hosted in Bangladesh since 1997 by a different university each year. ICCIT provides a forum for researchers, scientists, and professionals from both academia and industry to exchange up-to-date knowledge and experience in different fields of computer science/engineering and information and communication technology (ICT). This is a regularly held ICT based major annual conference in Bangladesh now in its 25th year. ICCIT series has succeeded in engaging the most number of universities in Bangladesh from both public and private sectors. Each new university in Bangladesh have been investing in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, and related fields.

The electronics industry in Bangladesh is one of the fastest-growing industries in the country with great potential. Popular Bangladeshi electronics brands include Walton Electronics, Singer Bangladesh, Jamuna Electronics, Vision Electronics. Local companies such as Fair Group, Butterfly Group, Electra, Rangs Group, Electro Mart, and Transcom Group manufacture and assembles Electronics Home Appliances in collaboration with foreign brands such as Samsung, Whirlpool, LG, Sony, Gree, Konka, and Sharp.

Feni Computer Institute is the first and only ICT based polytechnic institute for Diploma in Engineering courses in Bangladesh. It is situated in Feni Sadar Upazila of Feni city. Founded in 2003, It is directed under Directorate of Technical Education. Every year, around 300 students get accepted to their Diploma in Engineering programs to study about Information Technology. FCI is a member of Asia-Pac ific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

The Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) is a statutory government organization operating under the Information and Communication Technology Division of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology of the government of Bangladesh. Its headquarters are situated in Agargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was initially known as the National Computer Committee (NCC) in 1983 and transformed into the Bangladesh Computer Council through Act No. 9 of the National Parliament in 1990.

National Information and Communication Technology Awards is the only state and highest prize in the Information and Communication Technology sector of Bangladesh. The award is being given since 2017.
