Confidence Group of Companies Limited (also referred to as Confidence Group) is a Bangladeshi company, involved in manufacturing mid-tech manufacturing engineering products. [1] [2] The conglomerate commenced its operation in 1991 with cement manufacture, and is involved with power generation and the manufacture of Spun Pre-stressed Concrete (SPC) poles. [3] As of 2017, the conglomerate claims to consist of 8 operational business entities. [4]

History

Confidence Group was established in 1991 with the founding of Confidence Cement Limited by Kazi Shahidul Islam, Khurshid Anwar, Rezaul Karim, and Rupam Kishore Barua. [7] Confidence Cement is listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange. [8]

Confidence Group established Confidence Power in 2000. [7]

In 2002, Confidence Group established a partnership with Asian Paints to form Asian Paints Bangladesh Limited (APBL). [9] [10]

Confidence Group signed an agreement with Bangladesh Power Development Board in 2011 to build an oil based powerplant in Chittagong in partnership with Rurelec PLC Limited and Energypac Power Generation Limited. [11]

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh, Bangladesh Independent Power Producers Association and Confidence Group distributed 2000 protective clothing to Bangladesh Police, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, and Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence. [12] It donated 2 million BDT worth of testing kits in partnership with Shakib Al Hasan Foundation. [13] Confidence Group received permission to build a 660 mw natural gas powerplant in Chittagong. [14] Confidence Infrastructure Limited established a geotextile plant in Narayanganj District in June 2022. [5] Former chairman of Confidence Group, Shamsul Alam, died in December 2022 from cancer. [15]

In February 2023, Confidence Group signed a banking agreement with BRAC Bank Limited. [16] Confidence Cement issued preference share worth 1.5 billion BDT. [17]

Rezaul Karim Reza is a Bangladeshi professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Bangladesh Premier League club Abahani Limited Dhaka. He played for the Bangladesh national team between 2010 and 2021. Due to his versatility, he can also play as a left back.

Jamuna Bank PLC is a commercial bank in Bangladesh registered under the Companies Act 1994. Jamuna Bank had 132 branches as of March 2019. Its head office is located at Plot No. 14, Bir Uttam A. K. Bashundhara Group is a Bangladeshi conglomerate and one of the largest manufacturing companies in Bangladesh. It was incorporated in 1987 as a real estate company under the name East West Property Development Ltd (EWPD). After its first project turned out to be successful, the company grew quickly. It presently owns more than 50 major concerns located throughout Bangladesh. The company's import-export turnover was $1.12 billion or BDT 111.38 billion in the 2022-23 fiscal year. In the 2018 fiscal year, the company's real estate holdings amounted to BDT 50,000 crores, or $4.6 billion.

Orion Group is one of the largest Bangladeshi industrial conglomerates. Abu Syed Chowdhury is the deputy managing director and Shah Shafiqul Islam is the group director. All four are sons of Abul Khair.
