Connected City, Florida

The Connected City is a planned community with the intention of having a fiber network infrastructure in place that houses Gigabit internet service. [1] It is located in Wesley Chapel, Florida in Pasco County. [2] The community will include a Saint Leo University Education Center, [3] a wellness district sponsored by Florida Hospital and Tampa General Hospital, [4] and the first Crystal Lagoon in the United States. [5]

The Connected City Corridor was created by Florida Senate Bill 1216 in May 2015 through a private public partnership between Metro Development Group and Pasco County. This bill states that the chosen area will be used as a 10-year "pilot program" for future further implementation in additional counties. [1]

Crystal Lagoon

The Connected City will have the first crystalline public pool lagoon in the United States. Powered by Crystal Lagoons' technology this is a massive pool that uses utilizes environmentally sustainable technologies and minimal chemicals. [6] This public pool lagoon will be 7.5 acres and 4,200 linear square feet in circumference. The average depth will be 8 feet, with a maximum depth of 12 feet. It will have 95% non Epperson residents, a swim-up bar, watersport activities all for money, not free to residents, beaches, and an island. [7]

ULTRAFi

The Connected City will be completely wired for 1 GB internet speeds through a service called ULTRAFi. [8] This service is created by Metro Development Group and is provided by Spectrum, who beat out proposals from fiber internet services such as Verizon FiOS and Gigabit Squared. [9] The infrastructure being installed in the Connected City has the capability to be increased up to 10 GB in the future. [10]

Residential Development

The first residential development within the Connected City is the community of Epperson. [11] Upon completion, it will have around 3,000 homes, all of which will feature ULTRAFi technology and access to the Crystal Lagoon. In total, the Connected City is planned to have around 37,000 homes. [12]

Education

The developer of Connected City, Metro Development Group, has partnered with Saint Leo University to create a state-of-the art education center. [13] The center will utilize ULTRAFi to allow students taking specialized business, computer science, and cyber security online from around the world. The education facility will also house other Universities. [14]

Healthcare

A portion of Connected City will be dedicated to a Wellness District, constructed in partnership with Florida Hospital and Tampa General Hospital. The district will include a hospital, research center, and health care facilities. Telemedicine and at-home health options will also be available for residents to take advantage of. [15]

Transportation

Multimodal transportation networks are currently in development for the Connected City. [16] Self driving and electric vehicles will be provided by Meridian Autonomous Systems. [17] The Meridian Autonomous Vehicle (World Bus by Mobi-Cubed), will be the first self-driving vehicle in the Connected City. [18] Update..8/10/2020. there will be no multi modal transportation.

New Tampa is a region in Florida that encompasses both a 24-square-mile (62 km2) area within the corporate limits of the City of Tampa, as well as a larger land area that is in unincorporated Hillsborough, but retains a Tampa mailing address. The incorporated portion of "New Tampa" that lies within the city limits of Tampa is one of the largest city neighborhoods. Pasco–Hernando State College (PHSC) is a public college in Florida with campuses in Pasco and Hernando counties. It is part of the Florida College System and has additional campuses in Brooksville, Dade City, New Port Richey, Spring Hill, and Wesley Chapel. The name of the school changed from Pasco-Hernando Community College (PHCC) to Pasco–Hernando State College (PHSC) on January 21, 2014.

Cypress Creek Town Center is a large retail development in Lutz, FL. It is anchored by Hobby Lobby, Burlington, Five Below, Earth Fare, HomeGoods, Costco, At Home, and a Simon Outlet Mall, the Tampa Premium Outlets.

The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority, or TBARTA, was a regional transportation agency of the U.S. state of Florida which was created on July 1, 2007. The transportation agency ceased all operations on December 30, 2023, after the governing board voted unanimously to disband. The purpose of the agency was "to plan, develop, finance, construct, own, purchase, operate, maintain, relocate, equip, repair, and manage multimodal systems in Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, and Pinellas Counties." The agency coordinated its efforts with the Florida Department of Transportation to improve transportation in the Tampa Bay Area.

Saint Joseph, commonly referred to as St. Joe, is an unincorporated community in Pasco County, Florida, United States. It was originally settled as a German Catholic community. It is located in the northeastern part of Pasco County in Central Florida a few miles north of San Antonio and Saint Leo University. Saint Joseph also claims to be the "kumquat capital of the world" for its production of the citrus fruit. Because of this, nearby Dade City hosts the annual Kumquat Festival. The community is also home to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the third oldest parish in the Diocese of St. Petersburg.

Greater Tampa Bay Area Council serves Scouts in West-Central Florida with the council headquarters in Tampa, Florida. Youth are served in the following nine counties: Citrus, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sumter. Greater Tampa Bay Area Council was formed on May 1, 2016, by the merger of Gulf Ridge Council with West Central Florida Council.

Epperson Lagoon is a man-made tourist attraction located in Wesley Chapel, Florida, consisting of a 7.5-acre man-made lake and beach featuring clean, clear, purified water, and known as the first crystalline lagoon in the United States. The lagoon features a beach, swim-up bar, water slide, climbing wall, kayak and paddleboard rentals, and an entertainment pavilion with a stadium-sized LED screen.
