The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) heads the Defence Accounts Department.Shri SG Dastidar,IDAS[1987] is the present CGDA. [1] The office functions under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India and is the cadre controlling authority of the Indian Defence Accounts Service, an organised Group 'A' Civil Service of Government of India. Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) is a Central Group 'A' Civil Service of the Republic of India established to provide Financial Advice, Payment, Accounts and Audit services to the Defence Services i.e. Indian Armed Forces and other allied organisations viz. Defence Public Sector Undertakings, Military Engineer Services, Border Roads Organisation, Defence Research and Development Organisation etc.

He was Addl CGDA, and Principal controller at Delhi and before that he served as Joint Secretary in Ministry of Water Resources and is a graduate from D.A.V College Amristar, Guru Nanak University and holds an LL.B. Degree from University of Punjab. He holds a Degree from National Defence College, New Delhi on Defence Strategic Studies. He, as FADS, was mandated to advise the Ministry of Defence regarding both Capital and Revenue expenditures and Defence Budget of Govt. of India.He is a Defence finance analyst. He superannuated on 31 August 2018, succeeded by Smt.Madhulika P. Sukul, IDAS(1982).

The 7th Central Pay Commission (7CPC), constituted in February 2014 the principles and structure of emoluments of all central government civilian employees including defence forces in India, submitted its report on 19 November 2015. 7CPC's recommendations affects the organization, rank structure, pay, allowances and pension, of 13,86,171 armed forces personnel. This helps A salary monitoring system is designed to determine and suggest needed changes to the salaries of government employees.page 105, para 6.2.2[3]

He served as Addl CGDA before his promotion to CGDA. He was earlier working as Principal controller Jammu and Principal Financial Advisor to Indian Navy. He was appointed as administrative member of the Central Administrative Tribunal in 2018. He is former administrative member of the Central Administrative Tribunal Bench in Guwahati, Assam.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Integrated Defence Staff</span> Tri-service Defense organization of the Indian Armed Forces

The Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) is an organisation responsible for fostering coordination and enabling prioritisation across the different branches of the Indian Armed Forces. It is composed of representatives from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Ministry of External Affairs, Defence Research and Development Organisation, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Finance. The IDS is headed by Chief of Integrated Defence Staff along with Deputy Chiefs of Integrated Defence Staff. On December 24, 2019, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) established the post of Chief of Defence Staff, a four-star general, a tri-service Chief, that shall lead the defence forces as well as play the role of head of the Department of Military Affairs. The body advises and assists the Chief of Defence Staff.
