Coping Mechanisms is the debut album by Irish music artist Si Schroeder. [1] It was released in 2006 by Irish independent record label Trust Me I'm A Thief. [2]

In an interview with The Irish Times at the time of its release Si Schroeder explained that the title 'comes from observing how friends and colleagues of his deal with living in 21st-century Dublin. "The nature of living in Dublin has definitely influenced the themes on this record. There's no doubt that it has become increasingly difficult to live here, so people use mechanisms and quirks to cope with living here and staying sane." but people also had started to stink and people died too because of the stink so thats how it started' [3]

Reception

Coping Mechanisms was shortlisted for the 2006 Choice Music Prize Irish album of the year. [4]

Influential Irish blogger Nialler9 named Coping Mechanisms his blog's No 1 Irish album of 2006, as did the influential Foggy Notions magazine. [5] [6] [7]

Irish music magazine Hot Press scored the album 9/10 in its review and includes Coping Mechanisms in its list of '250 Greatest Irish Albums of All Time' voted for by more than 200 of Ireland's leading musicians and published in December 2009. [8] [9]

Irish music journalist Tony Clayton-Lea includes Coping Mechanisms in his 2011 book 101 Irish Records You Must Hear Before You Die. [10]

Influential Irish blog Hardcore for Nerds called Coping Mechanisms Ireland's Spiderland . [11]

Irish music website Drop-D described Coping Mechanisms as "a record that can creep inside of you to massage your soul... the album isn't electronic in the strictest sense; the pallet containing a balance between electronic and organic sounds, not to mention some of the strangest samples you're likely to hear". [12]

Choice Music Prize Award

The Choice Music Prize, known for sponsorship reasons as the RTÉ Choice Music Prize is an annual music prize awarded to the best album from a band or solo musician who is born in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland or holds an Irish passport. For bands, the majority of members must have been born in the island of Ireland or hold an Irish passport.

Jape (band) Irish electronic–rock band

Jape are an Irish electronic–rock band from Dublin. Formed as a side project by Richie Egan whilst part of The Redneck Manifesto, they have released five albums to date; Cosmosphere (2003), The Monkeys in the Zoo Have More Fun Than Me (2004), Ritual (2008), Ocean of Frequency (2011), and This Chemical Sea (2015). Jape's wider discography includes the EP, Jape is Grape (2007), as well as a number of singles, including "Floating" and "Phil Lynott". The band have performed at festivals and events such as Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, Lovebox and Hard Working Class Heroes and provided support for The Flaming Lips at Belsonic in Belfast in August 2008.

Here Comes the Night was a late night radio show hosted by Donal Dineen on Today FM. It commenced broadcasting on 17 March 1997, lasting for a seven-year period before being replaced by Dineen's current show Small Hours. It was Dineen's first radio show on Today FM, airing from the station's opening day. Dineen is largely credited with breaking David Gray in Ireland during this show's tenure. Other artists whose music featured on this show included Jape, who went on to win the Choice Music Prize in 2009.

<i>Tales of Silversleeve</i> 2007 studio album by Cathy Davey

Tales of Silversleeve is the second album released by Irish-born singer Cathy Davey. It was released on 12 October 2007 as the follow-up release to Davey's 2004 debut Something Ilk. The album contains eleven tracks, including the singles "Reuben", "Sing for Your Supper" and "Moving".

Daithí Ó Drónaí is an Irish musician and producer, best known for producing electronic music inspired by Irish culture under the artist name "Daithi". He debuted in 2009 as a participant on All Ireland Talent Show. Since then, Daithi has developed a successful music career in Ireland, releasing an album with Sony Music Entertainment and independently releasing a range of E.P.s. Two of his singles, "Chameleon Life" and "Mary Keanes Introduction" were nominated for the Choice Music Prize.

The Olympus Sound is the fifth studio album by Irish power pop band Pugwash. It features contributions from Ben Folds, Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy, and Dave Gregory and Andy Partridge of XTC. Frontman Thomas Walsh wrote the track "Dear Belinda" as a birthday present for British actress Belinda Stewart-Wilson, and claimed Stewart-Wilson had requested to sing vocals on the final version of the song but she does not appear on the album.

This Chemical Sea is the fifth studio album from Irish recording artist Jape. The album was released on January 23, 2015 via Faction Records and reached number 8 in the Irish charts.

Pearse McGloughlin is a songwriter and artist from Sligo, Ireland. He has released four studio albums; Busy Whisper (2009), In Movement (2012) and Idiot Songs (2013) which was a concept album based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's 'The Idiot' in collaboration with composer Justin Grounds. McGloughlin draws on literary and philosophical influences in his work. His aesthetic is described as atmospheric or ethereal. Elaine Mai is a songwriter, musician, and producer from County Mayo, Ireland, now based in Dublin. Mai has been referred to as "one of Ireland's top electronic music producers" by RTE Radio One and Today FM. In January 2022, her debut album Home was shortlisted for the Choice Music Prize.
