Faustin-Archange Touadéra is a Central African politician and academic who has been President of the Central African Republic since March 2016. He previously was Prime Minister of the Central African Republic from January 2008 to January 2013. In the December 2015 – February 2016 presidential election, he was elected to the presidency in a second round of voting against former Prime Minister Anicet Georges Dologuélé. He was re-elected for a second term on 27 December 2020.

Between 6 and 16 December 2021, a number of Muslim civilians were killed and injured by Anti-balaka fighters supported by government forces and Russian mercenaries in the Boyo commune, located in the Ouaka prefecture of the Central African Republic (CAR). These civilians were attacked for their alleged links with Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC) rebels. The attacks are part of the larger CAR Civil War which has been ongoing since 2012.
On 16 and 17 January 2022, at least 65 civilians were killed by Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group who were supported by armed forces in the villages of Aïgbado and Yanga near Bria in the Central African Republic during an operation against rebels from the Coalition of Patriots for Change.
In March 2022 Russian mercenaries from Wagner Group supported by armed forces launched an offensive against armed groups in the northeastern parts of the Central African Republic (CAR) during which they killed dozens of rebels and possibly hundreds of civilians including citizens of Chad, Niger, Sudan and CAR who were working there as artisanal miners, herders and camel drivers while displacing thousands. The events have been described by multiple sources including domestic in the Central African Republic as well as in Sudan based on survivor testimony.
In late March and April 2022 series of intercommunal clashes between in Gadzi and neighboring Yaloke subprefectures in the Central African Republic resulted in dozens of deaths and more than two thousand displaced people.
On 21 July 2021 13 unarmed civilians were murdered in Bongboto village near Bossangoa in the Central African Republic. Government forces and rebels from Coalition of Patriots for Change have blamed each other for the massacre. Investigation done by Human Rights Watch has identified Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group as responsible for the massacre while results of investigation launched by the government has not been published.
Sikkikede , also spelled Sikikédé, is a town in Vakaga Prefecture, Central African Republic. It is the largest settlement in Vakaga, with a population of around 20.000 people, and home to a rebel group, CPJP.
