The New York Dragons were a professional arena football team based in the New York metropolitan area. The Dragons participated in the Arena Football League's (AFL) National Conference as a member of the Eastern Division. The team was founded in 1995 as the original iteration of the Iowa Barnstormers, and relocated to New York in 2001. They played in New York until 2008, when the league folded. They played in the Eastern Division of the National Conference, and played their home games at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Their last coach was Weylan Harding.
The Los Angeles Avengers were an Arena Football League team based in Los Angeles, California, from 2000 through 2008. They folded on April 19, 2009.

He previously served as the head coach of the New Orleans VooDoo, Orlando Predators and Tri-Cities Fever. O'Hara also served as an assistant coach for the Houston Texans and Tampa Bay Storm.
Christopher Jackson is an American football coach and former wide receiver who is the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for The University of Texas. During the 2022 season, he was the wide receivers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bears.
'Skinny' Shannon Culver is a former Canadian Football League Wide receiver for the Baltimore Stallions (1994–95) Spring Football League Los Angeles Dragons (2000), XFL Orlando Rage (2001) and Arena Football League wide receiver for Anaheim Piranhas (1997), the Grand Rapids Rampage (1998), the Los Angeles Avengers (2000–2001), the Dallas Desperados (2002–2003), and the Austin Wranglers (2004). He then signed with the Arizona Rattlers after taking the 2005 season off. Culver played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Los Angeles Pierce College.

Wasswa Serwanga is a former American football cornerback in the National Football League and Arena Football League. He played one season for the San Francisco 49ers and two for the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL, and one for the Los Angeles Avengers of the AFL. Serwanga attended and played football for UCLA, Sacramento State University and University of the Pacific. His hometown is Sacramento, California where he and his brother were standout defensive backs for the Sacramento High School Dragons. He is the identical twin brother of former NFL player Kato Serwanga.

The 2005 Arena Football League season was the 19th season of the Arena Football League. The league champions were the Colorado Crush, who defeated the Georgia Force in ArenaBowl XIX. The AFL changed its playoff format to allow the top four teams per conference to make the playoffs. Previously, the top eight teams in the league make the playoffs, regardless of their conference. Also, there was no inter-conference play in the playoffs until the Arena Bowl starting in 2005. The division champions also received an automatic playoff berth. This was probably brought on by the fact that the year before the Eastern Division champion New York Dragons missed the playoffs.

The regular season began play on February 29, 2008 and concluded on June 22. The playoffs began the following week, and ArenaBowl XXII was held in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 27 between the National Conference champion Philadelphia Soul and the American Conference champion San Jose SaberCats. This game was won by the Soul, 59–56.
Omarr Ali Hasan Smith is a former American football defensive back who was most recently the head coach of the Baltimore Brigade of the Arena Football League (AFL). He played professionally for the San Jose SaberCats of the AFL, and played college football at San Jose State.
Mark Ricks is a former American football defensive back who played ten seasons in the Arena Football League with the St. Louis Stampede, Nashville Kats, Portland Forest Dragons, Portland Forest Dragons/Oklahoma Wranglers, Los Angeles Avengers, Arizona Rattlers, Grand Rapids Rampage and New York Dragons. He played college football at Western Michigan University. He was also a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League.
Roderick L. "Toby" Johnson Jr. is an American football defensive tackle for the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at the University of Georgia after two years at Hutchinson Community College and was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent after the 2015 NFL Draft.
