A Cork City Council election was held in Ireland on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's local elections. Thirty-one councillors were elected from a field of 65 candidates for a five-year term of office from six local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote. Cork City Council

Cork City Council is the authority responsible for local government in the city of Cork in Ireland. As a city council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. Prior to the enactment of the 2001 Act, the council was known as Cork Corporation. The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The council has 31 elected members. Elections are held every five years and are by single transferable vote. The head of the council has the honorific title of Lord Mayor of Cork. The city administration is headed by a Chief Executive, Ann Doherty. The council meets at Cork City Hall.

Having lost several seats in the 2009 local elections within Cork City Fianna Fáil made 4 gains in these local elections. The party gained 1 seat in each of the 3 Cork South Central LEAs, the base of Micheál Martin, and 1 seat in the Cork City North Central LEA on the North Side. Sinn Féin emerged as the second largest party with 8 seats as they made 3 gains on both sides of the river Lee though effectively matched Fianna Fáil in terms of first preference vote share. Fine Gael lost 3 seats to be reduced to 5 seats while their coalition partner, the Labour Party, was obliterated losing all 7 seats. The Anti-Austerity Alliance made 2 gains to return 3 councillors to City Hall and Ted Tynan became the Workers' Party sole elected representative in the State. Independents secured the remaining 4 seats.

Micheál Martin Irish Fianna Fáil politician

Micheál Martin is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who has served as Leader of the Opposition in Ireland since March 2011 and Leader of Fianna Fáil since February 2011. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-Central constituency since 1989. He previously served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2011, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment from 2004 to 2008, Minister for Health and Children from 2000 to 2004, Minister for Education and Science from 1997 to 2000 and Lord Mayor of Cork from 1992 to 1993.

              2007 Irish general election general election

              The Irish general election of 2007 took place on 24 May 2007 after the dissolution of the 29th Dáil by the President on 30 April 2007, at the request of the Taoiseach. The electorate was given the task of choosing the members of the 30th Dáil who met on 14 June 2007 to nominate a Taoiseach and ratify the ministers of the Government of the 30th Dáil.               2009 Irish local elections

              The 2009 Irish local elections were held in all the counties, cities and towns of the Republic of Ireland on Friday, 5 June 2009, on the same day as the European Parliament election and two by-elections.

              Mick Barry is an Irish Solidarity–People Before Profit politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork North-Central constituency since the 2016 general election. He is a member of the Socialist Party which has an international affiliation to the Trotskyist Committee for a Workers' International. The AAA was re-branded as "Solidarity" in 2017.

              2016 Irish general election

              The Irish general election of 2016 took place on Friday 26 February to elect 157 Teachtaí Dála (TDs) across 40 constituencies to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's parliament. The 31st Dáil was dissolved by President Michael D. Higgins on 3 February, at the request of Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

              2014 Monaghan County Council election

              An election to Monaghan County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 18 councillors were elected from three electoral divisions by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office, a reduction of 2 seats compared to 2009. Monaghan also saw a further reduction in elected representation as Ballybay Town Council, Carrickmacross Town Council, Castleblayney Town Council, Clones Town Council and Monaghan Town Council were all abolished.

              2014 Galway City Council election

              An election to Galway City Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 18 councillors were elected from three electoral divisions by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office, an increase of 3 seats when compared to 2009.

              2014 Meath County Council election

              An election to Meath County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 40 councillors were elected from six electoral divisions by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office, an increase of 11 seats from 2009.

              2014 Kildare County Council election

              An election to Kildare County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 40 councillors were elected from five electoral divisions by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office, an increase in 15 seats compared to 2009. In addition Athy Town Council, Leixlip Town Council, Naas Town Council and Newbridge Town Council were all abolished.

              2014 Dublin City Council election

              A Dublin City Council election was held in Ireland on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's local elections. Sixty-three councillors were elected for a five-year term of office from nine local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote.

              2014 Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council election

              A Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council election was held in Ireland on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's local elections. Forty councillors were elected from a field of 85 candidates for a five-year term of office from six local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote.

              2014 Fingal County Council election

              A Fingal County Council election was held in Ireland on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's local elections. Forty councillors were elected from a field of 97 candidates for a five-year term of office from five local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote.

              2014 South Dublin County Council election

              An election to South Dublin County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. Forty councillors were elected from six local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote for a five-year term of office.

              2014 Mayo County Council election

              A Mayo County Council election was held in Ireland on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's local elections. Thirty councillors were elected for a five-year term of office from four local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote. This represented a reduction of 1 councillor since 2009 and 1 a reduction in 2 electoral areas.

              2014 Clare County Council election

              A Clare County Council election was held in Ireland on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's local elections. Twenty-eight councillors were elected for a five-year term of office from four local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote. This was a reduction in 4 council seats and 2 LEAs when compared to the previous elections held in 2009.

              2014 Wicklow County Council election

              An election to Wicklow County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 32 councillors were elected from five electoral divisions by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office, an increase of 8 seats from the previous election in 2009. In addition Arklow Town Council, Bray Town Council, Greystones Town Council and Wicklow Town Council were all abolished, as per the Local Government Reform Act 2014.

This is a new local authority which was formed out of a merger from the abolished Limerick City Council and Limerick County Councils.

Forty councillors were elected from a field of 85 candidates for a five-year term of office from five local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote.

              2014 Waterford City and County Council election

              An election to Waterford City and County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 32 councillors were elected from five electoral divisions by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office. This is a new local authority which was formed out of a merger from the abolished Waterford City Council and Waterford County Councils. In addition Dungarvan Town Council, Lismore Town Council and Tramore Town Council were also abolished.

              2014 Cork County Council election

              A Cork County Council election was held in Ireland on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's local elections. Fifty-five councillors were elected from a field of 114 candidates for a five-year term of office from eight local electoral areas by proportional representation with a single transferable vote.
