An election to Louth County Council took place on 23 May 2014 as part of that year's Irish local elections. 29 councillors were elected from four electoral divisions by PR-STV voting for a five-year term of office. [1] [2] Ahead of the 2014 election Louth was redrawn into four electoral areas, a reduction of one from five, and the number of councillors was increased to 29, from a previous total of 26. Drogheda Borough Council, Dundalk Town Council and Ardee Town Council were all abolished.

Louth County Council

Louth County Council is the authority responsible for local government in County Louth, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation, urban planning and development, amenity and culture, and environment. The council has 29 elected members. Elections are held every five years and are by single transferable vote. The head of the council has the title of Cathaoirleach (Chairperson). The county administration is headed by a Chief Executive, Joan Martin. The county town is Dundalk.

Dundalk Town in Leinster, Ireland

Dundalk is the county town of County Louth, Ireland. It is on the Castletown River, which flows into Dundalk Bay, and is near the border with Northern Ireland, halfway between Dublin and Belfast. It has associations with the mythical warrior hero Cú Chulainn.
