Shooting sports have been included at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics except at the 1904 and 1928 games.
The ISSF World Shooting Championships are governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. World Shooting Championships began in 1897, after the successful 1896 Summer Olympics, and although the ISSF was not founded until 1907, these early competitions are still seen by the organization as the beginning of a continuous row of championships. By this logic, the 2006 competition in Zagreb was called the 49th ISSF World Shooting Championships. These championships, including all ISSF shooting events, are held every four years since 1954. For the shotgun events only, there is an additional World Championship competition in odd-numbered years. These extra competitions are not numbered. In running target, there will be World Championships in Olympic years.

Guy Starik is an Israeli sport shooter who has competed in four Olympics. He has won gold medals in shooting at both the European Championships and at four World Cups, and shares the world record in the 50 meter rifle prone competition.
Jonathan William James Hammond is a British sport shooter, who has competed for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and Great Britain at the Olympics. He is currently the head coach of the rifle team at the West Virginia University.
Dane Sampson is an Australian sports shooter. He competed in the 10 metre air rifle, 50 metre rifle three positions and 50 metre rifle prone events at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Péter Sidi is a Hungarian sport shooter. He has been world champion in the 50 m rifle 3 positions, as well as winning silver medals in the 300 m rifle prone and the men's 10 metre air rifle. He has also won bronze medals in the 50 metre rifle 3 positions and the 50 m rifle prone team event. He currently holds the qualification world record in 10 m Air Rifle.
Rob Harbison is an American sport shooter. He competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics in the men's 50 metre rifle three positions event, in which he placed sixth, and the men's 10 metre air rifle event, in which he placed seventh.
Hubert Bichler is a German sport shooter. He competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in the men's 50 metre rifle three positions event, in which he tied for 17th place, and the men's 50 metre rifle prone event, in which he placed fourth.
Pavel Soukeník was a Czechoslovakian sport shooter. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in the men's 50 metre rifle three positions event, in which he tied for 15th place; the men's 50 metre rifle prone event, in which he placed fourth; and the men's 10 metre air rifle event, in which he tied for 17th place.
Andreas Wolfram was a German sport shooter. He was born in Leipzig. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in the men's 50 metre rifle three positions event, in which he placed tenth; the men's 50 metre rifle prone event, in which he tied for 15th place; and the men's 10 metre air rifle event, in which he placed eighth.
Bae Sung-duk is a South Korean sport shooter. He competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the men's 50 metre rifle three positions event, in which he tied for 25th place, and the men's 50 metre rifle prone event, in which he tied for 38th place.
