Cornel Itu (born October 17, 1955) is a Romanian politician. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he has represented Cluj County in the Chamber of Deputies since 2008.
Born in Ciubanca, Cluj County, he attended Andrei Mureșanu High School in nearby Dej from 1970 to 1974. He then enrolled in a metallurgy school in Aiud, graduating in 1976 with a diploma in forging, hardening, and tempering. In 1978, he entered the mechanics faculty of the Cluj-Napoca Polytechnic Institute. He graduated first in his class in 1981, earning a junior engineer's degree. He worked as a junior engineer in training at a metals factory in Aiud from 1981 to 1982. [1]
Itu moved to a factory in Dej in 1982, and would remain there until 2008. He held a junior engineer's position there from 1982 to 1984; his activity focused on paper manufacture and metal products. Between 1984 and 1987, he was head of construction installations. From 1987 to 1990, he directed the anti-corrosion workshop. Between 1990 and 2002, he headed the replacement parts and equipment section. From 2002 to 2008, he was director of the entire factory. [1]
Itu entered politics in 1994, when he joined the PSD. In 2000, he became head of the party's Dej chapter. In 2010, he took on the role of vice president in its Cluj County chapter, and is a member of the party's national council. Elected to the Dej city council in 2000, he served until 2004. That year, he was elected to the Cluj County Council, serving until 2008. [1]
In 2008, Itu was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, where he was assigned to the political economy committee. In April 2010, he became one of the PSD group's deputy leaders. [2] In 2012, he was re-elected, winning close to 60% of the vote. [3] In the new parliament, he became secretary of the political economy committee and returned as a deputy leader of the PSD members. He is married. He sits on the leadership committee of FC Unirea Dej football club. In 1999, he received a patent for a filtration device. [1]
The Social Democratic Party is the largest social democratic political party in Romania and also the largest overall political party in the country, aside from European Parliament level, where it is the second largest by total number of political representatives, after the National Liberal Party (PNL). It was founded by Ion Iliescu, Romania's first democratically elected president at the 1990 Romanian general election. It is currently part of the National Coalition for Romania (CNR), which is a big tent grand coalition comprising also the National Liberal Party (PNL). The CNR formerly included the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR/RMDSZ) until mid June 2023.
Dej is a municipality in Transylvania, Romania, 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Cluj-Napoca, in Cluj County. It lies where the river Someșul Mic meets the river Someșul Mare. The city administers four villages: Ocna Dejului (Désakna), Peștera (Pestes), Pintic (Oláhpéntek), and Șomcutu Mic (Kissomkút).
Parliamentary elections were held in Romania on 30 November 2008. The Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) won three more seats than PSD in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, although the alliance headed by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) won more votes and a fractionally higher vote share. The two parties subsequently formed a governing coalition with Emil Boc of the PDL as Prime Minister.

The Democratic Liberal Party was a liberal-conservative political party in Romania. The party was formed on 15 December 2007, when the Democratic Party (PD) merged with the Liberal Democratic Party (PLD). On 17 November 2014 the PDL officially merged into the National Liberal Party (PNL), ceasing to exist. The PDL was associated with Traian Băsescu, who was previously leader of the PD and President of Romania from 2004 to 2014.

Miron Tudor Mitrea is a Romanian engineer and politician. In 2012, he returned to the Chamber, also for Vrancea County. In the Adrian Năstase cabinet, he was Minister of Public Works and Transport from 2000 to 2004.
Péter Eckstein-Kovács is a Romanian lawyer and politician. A former member of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), he was a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Cluj County from 1990 to 1992 and a member of the Cluj-Napoca city council from 1992 to 1996. That year, he was elected to the Romanian Senate, where he served until 2008, except for a stint as Minister-Delegate for National Minorities in the Radu Vasile cabinet (1999) and a break until he was elected again in November 2000.

In the Emil Boc cabinet, he was Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, Commerce and Business Environment from 2008 to 2009.
Dan Nica is a Romanian engineer and politician. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2014. He held a seat in the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Galați County from 1996 to 2014. In the Adrian Năstase cabinet, he was Minister of Communications and Information Technology from 2000 to July 2004. In the Emil Boc cabinet, he was the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Administration and Interior between February and October 2009. In the Victor Ponta cabinet, he served as Communications Minister for a second time, from May 2012 to February 2014.
Teodor Atanasiu is a Romanian engineer and politician. A member of the National Liberal Party (PNL), he was Minister of National Defence in the Călin Popescu-Tăriceanu cabinet from December 2004 to October 2006. He was a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies for Alba County from 2008 to 2016.
