Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) formerly known as Council for the Registration of Engineers in Nigeria, is the regulatory body that governs the practice of engineering in Nigeria. [1]

Council Structure

The Council is the highest policy making body. The members of the council must be registered engineering professionals. The council consists of 26 members in accordance with the Act, [2] as follows:

Danladi Slim Matawal is a Nigerian distinguished Professor of ; a former Director-General & CEO, Nigerian Building & Road Research Institute (NBRRI), an agency of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology. He is currently back to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi - Nigeria.

Victor Adetunji Haffner was a Nigerian communications engineer. He was trained as an engineer in England during the colonial era, then returned to Nigeria in 1956 where he held increasingly senior positions in the state-owned Nigerian PTT or its NET subsidiary. He represented Nigeria in various international telecom forums. In 1975 he was dismissed by the military regime, and became a consultant to a large Japanese company for many years.

Telenyem Renner Ikuru, commonly known as Tele Ikuru, is a Nigerian engineer and politician. He was first elected Deputy Governor of Rivers State in 2007 on a PDP ticket with Gov. Celestine Omehia. After the court annulled Omehia's election that year, he was picked to serve under Chibuike Amaechi and was reelected to the office in 2011.

Ahmadu Musa Kida is a Nigerian engineer and former basketball player. He hails from Borno State in Nigeria. He is the Deputy Managing Director, Deep Water Services, of Total Nigeria, and he is also the president of the Nigerian Basketball Federation.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is an umbrella organization for engineers in Nigeria. It was founded on 16 February 1958 by a group of young Nigerian Graduate Engineers and students in the United Kingdom and inaugurated at the Nigerian House in London.

Joana Maduka is a Nigerian engineer. She became the first female fellow of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in 1974. She is also a fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Academy of Engineering. She was made an honorary fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Science Technology in 1987 and Yaba College of Technology in 1988. She was honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2008. She was the first female COREN President.

Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan is a Nigerian politician, civil engineer and farmer who served as the deputy governor of Oyo State from 2019 to 2022 when he was impeached following misconduct and a series of allegations leveled against him. He was elected deputy governor as the running mate of Seyi Makinde in the 2019 Oyo State gubernatorial election. He usually spoke on behalf of the governor on matters arising within the state for national interest.

Ibrahim Khaleel Inuwa, also known as Engineer IK Inuwa, was a Nigerian politician, Kano State consultant, and a member of the Debate Coordinating Committee, that was chaired by Justice Niki Tobi on the Constitution of Nigeria (1999).

On 1 November 2021, a high-rise block of luxury flats under construction in the neighbourhood of Ikoyi in Lagos, Nigeria, collapsed. At least 42 people died. The government of Lagos State is conducting an investigation.

Ohere Sadiku Abubakar FNSE, is a Nigerian politician and senator currently serving for the Kogi Central Senatorial District. He is from the Okene LGA in Kogi State. From January 2016 to December 2019, he held two significant roles in the Kogi State government, beginning as the Special Adviser of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, before being appointed as the Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. In January 2020, with the commencement of the second term of Yahaya Bello, he was re-appointed to serve as the Commissioner for Works and Housing. Abubakar Ohere is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

Abubakar Momoh is a Nigerian politician and engineer. He has been appointed minister of the Niger Delta Development Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He was a former legislator of the Edo State House of Assembly and a former legislator of the House of Representatives for Etsako Federal Constituency, in Edo State

Grace Chijimma Ezema was a Nigerian electrical engineer, recognized as the first female graduate of electrical engineering in Nigeria. She had a notable career with the National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA) and later founded Guftane Engineering Nigeria Limited.
