The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is an umbrella organization for engineers in Nigeria. It was founded on 16 February 1958 by a group of young Nigerian Graduate Engineers and students in the United Kingdom and inaugurated at the Nigerian House in London. [1]
NSE is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a company limited by guarantee. [1]
The society has a President, Deputy President, 3 Vice Presidents and 6 other Executive Committee members. The current President is Engr. Babagana Mohammed, FNSE who was elected and sworn in as its 32nd President. [2]
Mayen Adetiba, a Civil Engineer, [3] a past President of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Nigeria (ACEN) [4] was the first woman to be elected into the Executive Committee of NSE, who also rose to become a Vice-President of the Society. [5]
The President of the Society is the Chief Executive, and directs the programme and mandate of the Society on behalf of the members. The President is the Chairman at every General Meeting, meeting of the Council and Executive Committee of the Society. The President holds for a period of two years and is succeeded by the Deputy President. The Deputy President is elected every two years, who automatically becomes the President after the expiration of the two-year tenure of the predecessor. [6]
The council is the governing body of the Society. The Council meets bi-monthly to consider memo from the executive committee and others to make policies touching on the conduct and business of the Society. The council is made up of statutory members and reports to the Annual General Meeting which is an expanded gathering of members once every year. [6]
The Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Society is responsible for overseeing the management and administration of the affairs of the Society and reports to Council of the Society. EXCO is made up of the President, Deputy President, Vice Presidents, members who were elected by other members at the Annual General Meetings every year and nominated representatives of the Divisions. The Secretariat of the Society is staffed by professionals with different skills and discipline. The Secretariat implements policies of the Society and the overall co-ordination of its activities. The Executive Secretary is the head of the Secretariat and oversees the day-to-day management of the Secretariat. The National Engineering Centre NEC Abuja houses the Secretariat. [6]

NSE official journal publication is The Nigerian engineer. [9] It also publishes conference proceedings, technical paper and inaugural lectures.

The National Engineering Center (NEC) Abuja was commissioned on Thursday 26 July 2007. The commissioning ceremony was performed by the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Engr. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, FNSE, GCFR. [11] The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) applied for the allocation of a plot of land in Central Area of Abuja in August 1980 to build the National Engineering Centre (NEC) Abuja during the tenure of past President of NSE Engr. O. Olugbekan, FNSE. [10] The foundation laying ceremony was performed by General I. B. Babaginda GCFR, the then President of Nigeria in December 1992. [11]

Adefemi Kila is a Nigerian politician and engineer who served in the Senate, representing Ekiti Central in April 2007 just after working for Julius Berger Nigerian Plc for 30 years as a civil engineer and as a technical manager (administration) for 18 years. He is currently a council member of Standards Organisation of Nigeria SON. He is a devoted Christian of the Anglican church of Nigeria.
Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) was conceived and founded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. Unity of people with a passion to constantly seek knowledge that addresses practical issues of development in Nigeria. The university opened its doors to its pioneer students in the 2010/2011 academic year.
Emmanuel Dangana Ocheja is a Nigerian Senator who represented Kogi East senatorial district in the National Assembly, and a member of the All Progressives Congress.
Azikiwe Peter Onwualu is a Nigerian professor of Agricultural engineering and Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) of Nigeria from 2010 to his retirement in 2014.
Telenyem Renner Ikuru, commonly known as Tele Ikuru, is a Nigerian engineer and politician. He was first elected Deputy Governor of Rivers State in 2007 on a PDP ticket with Gov. Celestine Omehia. After the court annulled Omehia's election that year, he was picked to serve under Chibuike Amaechi and was reelected to the office in 2011.
Olufemi Adebisi Bamiro is a Nigerian professor of mechanical engineering and former vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan.
Adekoya Adesegun Abdel-Majid is a Nigerian politician representing Ijebu-North / Ijebu-East / Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in Nigeria. He is a member of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) from Ogun State and also a member of the party's National Executive Council.
Dr. Nkem Okeke is a Nigerian Politician who was the Deputy Governor of Anambra State from 17 March 2014 to 17 March 2022 He first served as Anambra State Commissioner for Economic Planning, and again as Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Transport in the administration of Governor Peter Obi and later went back to immerse himself in academia as lecturer and head of department of economics at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
Ahmadu Musa Kida is a Nigerian engineer and former basketball player. He hails from Borno State in Nigeria. He is the Deputy Managing Director, Deep Water Services, of Total Nigeria, and he is also the president of the Nigerian Basketball Federation.
Aliyu Abubakar Aziz is a chartered engineer with over 30 years post-qualification experience in information technology, management, and administration. He is the current Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria's National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). He had previously worked with some of the most progressive Government Institutions in Nigeria during their transformative years.
Mayen Adetiba is a Nigerian actress and civil engineer.
Joana Maduka is a Nigerian engineer. She became the first female fellow of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in 1974. She is also a fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Academy of Engineering. She was made an honorary fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Science Technology in 1987 and Yaba College of Technology in 1988. She was honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2008. She was the first female COREN President.
Idiat Aderemi Amusu is a Nigerian engineer. She is the first female agricultural engineer in Nigeria and the first female council member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). She was among the original founding members of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) in 1983.
Robert Ifedayo Akintunde is a Nigerian engineer, a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and former President of the society. He was the first African to win the WFEO Medal of Engineering Excellence after doing so in 2017. Akintunde is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), and a Chartered Engineer of the U.K. since 1965. He was registered by Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria in 1974.
Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan is a Nigerian politician, civil engineer, and farmer. He served as the deputy governor of Oyo State from 2019 to 2022 before he was impeached following misconduct and a series of allegations leveled against him. He was elected deputy governor as the running mate of Seyi Makinde in the 2019 Oyo State gubernatorial election. He usually spoke on behalf of the governor on matters arising within the state for national interest.
Ibrahim Khaleel Inuwa, also known as Engineer IK Inuwa, was a Nigerian politician, Kano State consultant, and a member of the Debate Coordinating Committee, that was chaired by Justice Niki Tobi on the Constitution of Nigeria (1999).
Habu Gumel was born on 1 April 1949, in Gumel, Jigawa State, in Nigeria. He is currently the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) President and an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee. Although the COVID-19 pandemic led to the delay of the Tokyo Games, Gumel stated that he believes that postponement will help the nation's athletes with their preparation.
Gbenga Olu Komolafe is a Nigerian engineer, lawyer and petroleum and gas industry expert. Appointed in 2021, he currently serves as the pioneer chief executive officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC. He served at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in various capacities including as group general manager, Special Duties, group general manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division and executive director (commercial) Pipelines and Petroleum Marketing Company (PPMC). He is credited for formulating several strategic policies including electronic tracking of petroleum products distribution nationwide. Komolafe is a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers and a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Southern Kaduna People's Union (SOKAPU) is a socio-cultural organization, acting as an umbrella body representing the people of Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State, Nigeria. In a statement made by the chairman, Southern Kaduna Leadership Council (SKLC), Ishaya Dary Akau, in September 2022, SOKAPU was mentioned as a member of the council. However, many are uncomfortable with the SOKAPU being berated as a member of the SKLC. As of March 2024, the SOKAPU National President was Samuel Tabara Kato.
